Engagements Announced
The engagement of Miss Annie
Arden, of Guyton, and Mr. Wil
liam Lyle Bryan, ofCordele, which
wasannounced Sunday was of cor
dial interest to Jackson people.
Miss Arden taught for several
years in the public schools here
and by her charming personality
made scores of friends who will
wish for her the best things in
life. No date for the marriage
has been set.
The marriage of Miss Annie
Lois Walker, of Griffin, and Mr.
James Lester Gillis, of Soperton,
which takes place June 7th at
the home of the bride’s parents,
is also of interest to many Jack
son people. Miss Walker has
visited her kinswoman, Mrs. P.
W. Nolen, on several occasions
and was always popular and ad
mired. She is of a prominent
family and her wedding will be (
a social event of wide interest.

ticello, spent part of the week

Miss Lois Rogers, of Wesleyan
College, spent the week-end with
friends here.
Miss Alice Collins, of Savan
nah, is the guest of her sister,
Mrs. R. L. Carter.
Miss Venita Dudgeon, of Lo
cust Grove, was the recent guest
of Miss Thelma Wood.
Mr. George Manley, of Macon,
spent Sunday with his mother,
Mrs. Virginia Manley.

Miss Jennie Bryans, of Indian
Springs, was the guest Sunday
of Mrs. H. L. Daughtry.
Miss Lois Gilbert, the new tel
ephone operator, spent Sunday
with her parents at Stockbridge.

was indisposed the first of the

of near Forsyth, were guests

Mrs. M. A. Goodall returned

Rambo left Saturday for Mar
shallville to visit Mrs. J. S.
Murph.
Misses Annie and Jim Craw
ford went to Atlanta Tuesday,
where the latter will have her
arm, which was recently broken,
treated.
Mrs. Carr, of Atlanta, who
came down to attend the funeral
of Mrs. Emily Byars, Saturday,
was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J.
R. Pettigrew.
Miss Carrie Knott, of Locust
Grove, who will assist her broth
er, Mr Harvey Knott, who is the
Southern railway agent here, is
boarding with Mrs. J. C. Jones.

Mr. J. W. Andrews, of Stark,
was in the city Tuesday.
Miss Loma Thomason, who is
a member of the senior class of
Locust Grove Institute, has been
awarded a speaker’s place on the
commencement program. This
distinction can better be appre
ciated when it is known that on
ly ten places are awarded to the
entire school. These are won by
competive contest open to the
whole student body. Miss
Thomason formerly attended the
Jackson public schools and has
many warm friends here.
