PETER PARXQPPLE RETREATS
Letter from Black Ankle June 19th
L n Argus
I thought! could silence Peter
' Hunts battery, but to mv surprise,
he ha3 turned my left flank, and
moved up m easy range and with
an enfilading fire” poured a load of
grape and Cctmstcr down the lino
causing a constination and panic’
not equaled since Sherman flanked
Hood out of Atlanta. In other word?
I must acknowledge that f. am
vvhip’d. The argument of P. H. out
weighs me and I must say I would
he mortified to know that my argu
ment had tended to lead any one in
.0 extravagance.
Ft is beetter to wear an old coat
and “natched breeches” than to
ware a broadcloth suit and drive, a
fine turnout not paid for. Experi
ence has taught me that no mar
hould spend a dollar before it is
made; and to be very cautious how
he spends it after it is made; if he
lonl ne will liaye to labor unde ma
Ay disadvantages, ft lowed 1: ' v
:y regrets.
A young mans success in life tie*
ends a great deal on the way he
darts out in life, it he starts behind
be wfl remaim behind along time
It he starts even and pull cautious
ly up hill, he will reach the top af
ter a while. I have know young
men to start in life with out any
thing, take his better half, and start
oi t by hiring his self to Mr. C. for
*slso first year and clears $lOO.
• Nextyear he would clear it all:
gain the confidence ot his employ
ers, who in return for his industry
give him more and the first thing
. you would khow he bus a handsome
sum in cash and buys him a little
home, stocks it up, and starts life in
dependant. Take your stand upon
the roadside some Sunday morning,
you will see this young yeoman ride
by you in a “ bran new double seat
buggy, for tvhich every dollar is paid
the countenance of his wife and
two children being tokens of joy
and confidence, and the dainty bits
of ribbon fluttering in the breeze;
then the sparkling eyes says : our
home is a place of contentment.
Again I have seen the rich mans son
In any the rich mans daughter, his
father would give him a home and
stock it. His wifes father instead of
giving her a hundred acres or a thou
sand dollars: or in other words do*
ing what he was able, gives her a
cow and calf, a cheap set of furni
ture, and a scrub oi a hosre and tells
them to riffle.
Then when the silk and alpaeca
dresses become to much faded to be
wore and has to be replaced with a
new one, and a broadcloth suit
must be had to match it, or riffle
with the silk dress.
With his small income this soon
cuts to the back side of his home,
■then it goes under the sheriffs “ham
mer.”
Then the old gentleman with hi
twenty thousand dollars, and two
thousand acres of land , can consol*
himself by saying, the Devil owed
him a grudge and paid him offm ;
sorry son- ir-law: such is life.
MV.; P. 11. as we have exhaust the
subject, I will say I know who you
are and we are the best of friends.
My mind reverts, to the time we
roamed the woods in search of nuts
and inter, when we were on many a
vomp up and down the old Oemui
gee. And I some times wish we
could recall those good old gone by
days and eh as that same “old coon"
. Jain, fes Peter Hunt, you are
one of the good old boys that lives
uy honest labor, you live over ...
home and board at the sam t Vce,
attends to his own bust tit anil
what he says us for apm pas. •

New Life
is given by using Brown’s
Iron Bitters. In the
Winter it strengthens and
warms the system; in the
Spring it enriches the blood
and conquers disease; in the
summer it gives tone to the
nerves and digestive organs;
in the Fall it enables the
system to stand the shock
of sudden changes.
In no way can disease be
so surely prevented as by
keeping the system in per
fect condition. Brown’s
Iron Bitters ensures per
fect health through the
changing seasons, it disarms
the danger from impure
water and miasmatic air,
and it prevents Consump
tion, Kidney and Liver Dis
ease, &c.
