Mr. Willis Nutt, our live fancy groc
er, is arranging to begin the manu
facture of cigars in Jackson at an
early day. He is very sanqume of a
success and we trust his fullest expec
tations will be realized. He expects
soon to put in a goodly number of ex
pert cigar makers and make cigars on
a large scale if ho recieves the proper
encouragement.
There seems to be an impression on
the pubiic mind that the picnic at Ber
muda bottoms is for the public which
is a mistake. The day there really be
longs to the Jackson Sunday
Schools. Of course ot hi r children who
belong to other schools and their pa
rents would not be reiused,
but it, should be perfectly
understood tha t the general public are
not invited, for the reason it is the
children’s day and the general public
must not antagonize them by having
a picnic at the same place on the same
day that they have selected.

• INTELLIGENT COWS,
Mr. Taylor Buttrill claims the
most intelligent cows in Georgia.
A few oats ago he had an occasion
to pass through his pasture, which
is located near his home, and realiz
ing the difficulty of climbing over
the barbed wire fence which sur
rounds it, he simply laid down ana
rolled under the wire, which is about
one foot above the ground. Hits
milch cows were grazing near hv
and witnissed the novel performeme
of crossing the dangerous fence.
After Mr. Buttrill had left, the intel
ligent animals tried the project and
succeeded and s>rtce that time it has
been impossible to keep them with
in the enclosure. He has been com
pelled to put another wire near the
ground to keep them in.
This is no snake story and Mr.
Buttrill is responsible for the truth
ol it.
