HIGH FALLS.
Never in the history of High Falls
was there so much drinking, curs
ing and obscene language used on a
May day picnic as was on Saturday
and never, from all we can gather,
was there such an utter uncalled
for row as the one that closed the
days>xercises and [in which two
men were dashed into eternity and
one of them not connected with the
trouble at all, and several others
wounded. The writer was on the
ground until a short while before
the trouble arose and know whereof
we speak.
For twenty years or more
we have attended these annual pic
nics and can truthfully say that all
the debauchery of twenty yeari
combined would not equal that dis
played there on Saturday. It was a
common thing to see young men
and some mere boys, realing under
the influence of drink and using
the most vile and opprobrious lan
guage.
Inaeed the High Falls, as a pic
nic ground has become a disgrace
to Middle Georgia and no place tor
any decent young lady, or gentle
man.) either for that matter to be
found, and from this day forward
the mere idea of a High Falls. May
day celebration should be blotted
out from the entire country.
There for years the people from a
scope of country twenty miles in
circumference have been accus-
tomed to meet,renew acquaintances
chat over bygone affairs and spend
a day of general recreation and
pleasure, but when almost year at
ter year,a lot of ur.thoughted or un
principled young bucks literally
disgrace even the old red hills the
gjod people around them and the
very skin that covers their carcasses
by drunkeness and the use of the
most offensive language and then
draw weapons and recklessly fire
into innocent crowds of young la
dies and gentlemen it is certainly
time to call a halt. It ig time for a
few hangings. Ic is time for the
good people in masse to at least stay
a vav from such places, and let the
di*ath]dealing crowd take the day
kill themselves out or satisfy their
greed fjr notoriety. We do not
condemn the citizens of the imrne
diate place, but* it is others who go
from abroad that generally do the
devilment.
A FEMALE REAL ESTATE
MAN.
~ •
K P
; Speer gets on a congenial
BU Lject in the following :
Is there a real estate broker in At
lanta who belongs to the tender sex?
I presume not for there ; s only one
in Washington city and this town is
quite as big again as the Georgia
metropolis. Up here in the Corcoran
building hard by the Journal of*
fices, Miss Grace W Thomas, a
resolute Ohio girl, has a real estate
business worth $20,000 which she
has built in five years. Its value is
exactly stated because she was of
fered SIO,OOO for a half interest in
it a few daj’s ago f and she said ’’not
much. 11 Socrates, I believed it was,
called beauty a short lived tyranny.
V\ ell Miss Thomas is a short lived
tyranny for she is very fair to look
upon. She has a wealtli of golden
hair, bright azure eyes, a smart
business suit of navy blue and a bi
cycle, and there you have her!
She told me that she started five
years as an office seeker with
the usual hard luck; and having
her bread to win, she dropped into
the real estate current with a cap
ital of exactly 45 cents after her
office rent and license were paid for.
Miss Grace says it is rather uncon
ventional work for a woman, but
it has lost her no friends and that
it dosen’t interfere with her social
pleasures. Asa collection ot rents
Miss Thomas is a great success.
The destressed laws are all modeled
to protect the tenant, but in spirit
of the laws the Ohio girl generally
perudes her clients to settle.
Speaking of marriage the other
day—for she is just now of mar
riable age—she ventured the state
uaent that she had not as yet met
her man. “Man is strength/’ she
dsclared; “woman is beauty, Man
is courage; woman is love. When
one man loves one woman and
when one woman loves one man the
very angels leaves heaven and come
and sit on that house and sing for
joy/
Here is Miss Thomas’ business
circular. At the risk of violating
one of the business rules of the
Journal I append it as a lit
literary and business novelty,
“Grace M. Thomas respectfully
offers her services as a licensed real
estate broker, to persons who con
template buying or selling property
in the city or vicinit} 7 . She has
on her books many bargains in the
city houses and lots, and has also
for sale choice properties in the
growing suburban divisions—Brook
land, South Takoma
Park Rockville, Arlington Heights
and others.

country reflected in the Hats.
Mrs. Thurman is designing for
them. Truely there is high arc.

you turn your order over to her
somehow with her fingers
she gives the hat a set that in

the purchaser.
There is an eternal fitness of
things. Verily she is a true dis
