A BRILLIANT ENTERTAINMENT.
Never did moon shine mere tair. never
did the star-spangled heavens seem more
cloudless than on last Tuesday evening,
3/ay 31st, and as the silvery moonbeams
caressingly play hide and seek 'neath the
fringing boughs of the graceful elm trees
on the smooth streets of Jackson, happy
couples -wended their way to the hospila
able home of Mr. Wagner—for Mr. Ber
nard and his charming sister, Miss Mary,
had opened the portals for the entertain
ment of a select circle of admiring friends.
.Amid a beautiful array of bright-hued
blossoms and lustrous foliage Mss Mary
received her guests in a rich gown of cool
airy looking crcponne, the color of blue
forget me-nots. This shade is so becom
ing to the glorious blue eyes, and wreath
of golded tresses. Miss Mary is noted
here for her beauty and popularity, fir
she is not only gifted with rare charms of
person, but also of mind and a gentle
sweetness of disposition.
At eleven delicious refreshments were
served, consisting of delicately flavored
creams, raspberries and the snowiest and
flakiest of cakes. 3/rs. Wagner is noted
for her skill in the preparation of dainty
delicacies, and is so bright, versatile and
interesting. She is a bright and shining light
in any assemblage. Everyone feels at
case and at their best when in her gracious
presence.
Miss Tusic Caldwell lent an added
charm to this gay social circle. She is
pretty, versatile and winning and never
did she appear more graciously facinating
than on this delightful evening attired in a
rich crimson gewn elaborately adorned
with softest frills of richest lace. None
one in speaking of Miss Caldwell’s beauty
not long since remarked that she possess
ed that rarely beautiful mould of profile,
at once so admirable and so exceptionl.
Miss Myrtice Peavy is a young lady of
universal popularity, and since her com
iug was heralded in the month of Decem
ber, she has a theme of interest. She
was prettily gowned in a “Japonet” of a
clinging, airy, fairy texture, enhancing
the expressive, velvety dark eyes and rich
olive complexion.
Miss Lily Hightower is a vivacious and
sparkling blonde and effected gray winch
lights up so well azure eyes, and rose-leaf
cheeks.
Miss Mary Duke wore a snowy white
robe emblamatic of purity and innocence,
and which is alvvay so appropriate for a
maiden whose summers number “sweet
sixteen.’’
Miss Nellie Higgins never appeared more
daintily fair and airily sweet than dressed
in a rich tan Avith elaboiate garmturings,
and frills of 3/echlin lace.
Messrs. Bernard Wagner and Wright
did the honors on this occasion and right
royaly did they entertain and it was a re
cherche little affair that memory bells will
chime out merrily in the far away future
when “silver threads may be found among
the gray.”
Those present:
Miss Mary Duke, Mr. Bernard Wagner;
Miss Lily Hightower, Mr. James Kinard;
Miss Myrtice Peavy, Mr. Harrold Higgins;
Miss Tusie Caldwell, 1/r. Bernard Wright;
Miss Nellie Higgins, Mr. C. O. Beau
