L\ T THE S'VIM.
On Monday night of last week, in
company with our daughter, Paul
ine, we boarded the train for
Brunswick to attend theßth annual
meeting of the Weekly Press Asso
ciation. A large numbers of editor s
from above here were on the train
and after cordial handshakes with
them all we went oh eur way rejoic
ing, reaching the “city by the sea v
7 o 'clock the next morning. After
•a good breakfast at the Ocean house
the editors repaired to the city hall
where the convention was called to
order by President S. W. Roberts ol
the Sparta Ishmaelite.
About seventy-five responded to
roll call and accompanying them
were quite a number of ladies. Af
ter transacting the usual routine
business the election of officers resul
ted as fellows :
President 8. M. Blalock of Fay
etteville, First Vice Pres. W. S.
Coleman of Cedartown, Second
A ice Pres D. ,T. Thaxion of Jackson,
Secietary W. A Shackleferd of
Lexington, Asst. Sec’y. P. T. Mc>
Cutcbin of Franklin, Recording
Sec’y. Alfred Herrington of Swains
boro.
Everything passed off exceedingly
pleasant but the duty of the con
vention of investigating charges
against Recording Secretary C. D.
Barker of Atlanta for securing pas
ses over certain radroads for mem
bers to attend the conwnion and
then selling the same to outside
parties, die evidence was conclu
sive of Barker's guilt and he was
handled in the roughest manner
and allowed to withdraw from the
convention in disgrace.
On Tuesday afternoon the con
vention in a body ac cepted an invi
tation to visit St. Simons and par
take in the hospitalities of clever
Jack Cl incev of Hotel St. Simon’s
and dip in the beautiful surf. Af
ter spending a delightful time there
we returned to Brunswick at mid
night.
On Wednesday morning, through
an invitation from friend Tna 1
Sturgis, the bodv to >k a ride on the
“City of Brunswick’’ to delightful
Cumbeiland, where a most pleasant
day was spent, surf bathing etc.
We returned at Op m and a large
number left for Jacksonville, St.
Augustine, Tampa etc. while the
writer with about a dozen others
returned by the East Tennessee
home. These press meetings are
always pleasant and this one was
certainly equal to any one in the
past. Aside from routine business
we renew 7 aequaintences, form n?w
ones and enjoy one week of genuine
pleasure.
