We received a very pleasant visit
on Saturday from Miss Florie Ham
mond of Elgin and her friend MissPur
ifory ot Zebuloti who called to take a
view ot the inside of a printing estab
lishment, which they never had the
pleasure of seeing before. The intri
cacies of newspaper making is quite a
show to those who have never wit
nessed type setting, the running of a
power pr ess etc. and we are always
more than pleased to show them
through our rooms. Our sanctum
chairs are easy and w r e always pleased
to have our friends, especially the
ladies, to call on 11s.
It is incouraging to uote that crop
prospects are, generally good in this
section. Our tirst question to every
farmer who comes into town is “how
are crops? “Have you had rain” etc.
and the replies are always on the bet
ter side. Corn is now made and the
yield will be more than an average,
while all other crops are in tine state
of progress. Verily our people should
be discouraged nor matter how many
banks |break no how stringent the
financial affairs of the business world
becomes. The true and indepen
dent farmer can live at home and
board from his own barn and larder
whether he secs a dol!a r or not.

tion of quite a number of our citizens
this week. The South Atlanta dis
trict conference meets in McDonough
today and will continue tili Sunday
and quite a number of our Methodist
friends will attend. A general meet
ing for the first district ot the Flint
River Association will meet at Mace
donia tomorrow and a like meeting
for the second district of the same as
sociation will meet a l’hillippi in
Henry county at the same time.
There will also be held the annual
meeting of the Flint River Association
1 Sunday School convention at Phillipi
on Friday, in connection with thedis
i trict meeting at that place. Many of

GRAPES GOING.
Shipping grapes by the carlead has
begun. On Thursday of last week the
first car ever shipped from Jacissou
left here and yesterday another one
was put on the road. Messrs. Mallet,
Dempsey, Lottig and Sam McKibben
are the principle shippers. The grape
business is assuring large poportions
around Jackson and the fruit is pay
ing fair prices.

Messrs. Bob Etheridge, Lee Smith,
Splint AWnne, and Stephen Kinard
took seats on the East Tennessee flyer
o i Saturday night and sped a.vay to
St. Simons, where they spent Sun
day bathing in the surf. They had a
delightful time and will never regret
the trip and their first dip in the bri
ri:v deep.
A GOOD INDICATION.
It is a common thing to see and
hear of farmers offering to sell corn,
oats, peas, fodder, bacon etc, to our
merchants. Such things a few
years ago, was not heard in this sec
tion and it points to the fact that
some ot our planters at least, are
gradually becoming better off.
