PROGRESS ON AND UPWARD’’ OUR MOTTO.
• lie taste of the people must be met, and The New York Store folks are the ones
equal to the emergency.
IMOT ONLY THIS, BUT PRICES WILL FIGURE
largely this winter. Bearing this in mind, it hxs been our main desire and highest
ambition to buy cheap and to sell cheap, underbuy and undersell. With this idea
burning in us, we have waged war, fought battles and came out conquerors and will
>diow a line of goods, in every line, at prices the like of which has never been known
“ fdie. All we ask is that you look and see and price.
OUR MILLINERY DEPARTMENT
Is even more complete than ever. Mrs. Thurman’s excellent taste will be readily
recognized, ns she in person made all the selection l While in New York she attended
several large openings and is “up” on the very latest things of the season. The La
dies are cordially invited to visit her practically new rooms and see what it is impos
sible to tell in such short space.

“DON’T NEED IT IN HIS
BUSINESS.”
When we had mailed the last issue
of The Argus one ot the business
men of Jackson, whom this paper had
always treated very kindly, refused
to take it out of the office by writing
the following note on its margin, “I
don’t need this paper iu my business.”
We never force anyone to subscribe
for Thb Argus, nor do we claim that
a man cannot conduct his business
without it, but the history of Jackson
business men will show that not one
of them has ever succeeded without
patronizing this paper in some way.
If a man can run a business without
its influence, all well and good—we
can, perhaps, live without anything
sold in his establishment.
We have ever tried to get out a
clean, healthy uewspauer, clear of all
scandals or unwholesome items, in
order that it would be a welcome visi
tor to the most religious or refined fam
ily in the land, as well as to write up
and touch up every interest that would
foster religion, good morals and the
growth of the town in every legiti
mate line, and if a business man
“don’t need it in his business,” he
may soon find that he has no business
to lun.
I HAVE NO MOTHER.
I’ve no mother now—she’s gone.
Gone where she longed to be;
She a gone to bathe in Jesus’ love,
7b sail the crystal sea:
She's gone to walk the golden streets —
She’s gone to join the throng
And meet the loved ones gone before,
Who sing the grest new song.
I’ve no mother now—she's gone.
When Sunday’s sun had risen
She bade farewell to all on earth,
And took her flight to heaven.
I know she waits to welcome me
When death’s cold stream is past,
And when the pearly gates I see—
I'll meet her there at last.
I’ve no mother now—she’s gone.
I view her vacant chair,
I miss the face so sweet with smiles,
I miss her words of cheer,
But then I know there’ll be a time—
I'm happy in the thought—
I’ll meet her in a sunny clime,
house that Jesus bought.
I’ve no mother now—she’s gone.
She passed the pearly gates,
And walks the streets of gold,
And for me watches, waits;
I’ll meet her? Yes, I know I will—
JFlien life’s fierce storm is o’er—
I’ll meet her at the gates of love,
On Canaan’s happy shore.

Mr. Marion Weaver, who stands in

and who has been hiding since the

and Mr. Beauchamp went out to his
home and placed him under guard,
he not being able to be confined in
jail. He made application for bail,
aud on Saturday Judge Hunt granted
it, fixing the bond at $4,000. The
papers have been signed, but Mr.
Weaver is low down and it will be
quite a while before he will be out.
