Yesterday Lee Jester, who lives ntar Brushey, brought to this city a month old quadruped that a sow on his place gave birth to, which he claims to be a pig, but there is room for doubt. It is sandy iu color with ears like a fox, feet like a dog. its head, be tween the ears, resembles that of a monkey while its body, head and snout is that of a pig. Its squeak, while verv much like that of a pig, is not quite mo shrill. Mr, Jester says that the sow lit tered five pigs, four of which were deformed, this and one perfect one being the only two to live. Thi* one ia fat and healthy and enjoys its milk, lapping it somewhat like a dog DOWN ON THE FARM. Farming is one of the noblest occupations known to man or to woman. The first man was a farmer, bis occupation God choen, and the first wife was a farmer’s wife. If the employment has be come distasteful to young people, so that it. in difficult to keep the old ho estead in the familv, the fault lies in the conditions which the Firmer impose- n himself and on his fain ly The great w >rld of art. SC ence and literature should be opened to the farmed* song aid laughters ana the courtesies and refinements ot life shared by them a* well as by the families of the men ot affairs in the town ; and until the fartlJ•r , lifr* broadens to meet the re quirements ot the times he must not expect to detain at home the wide awake boys and girls who are needrd there. FARMER AND NEWSPAPER MAN. Many men think that newspaper men ate persistent dun tiers. By way of compariison lat us suppose that a farmer raises 1 000 bushels of wheai a year, and sells this to 1,000 persons in all parts of the country, great portion of them saying: "I hand you a dollar in a eh*.it time.’’ The farmer does not want to be •mall and says: ‘‘All right/ Soon the 1,000 bushels are gone but he has nothing to show for it, and be then realizes that he has tooled away his whole crop and its value to him is due him in a thousand little driblets, consequently he is serious lv embarrassed in his business, he cause the debtors, each owing him II treat it as a small matter ad think it would not help very much. Continue this kind of business year in and veer out as the publish* r does, how long would he stand it? A lamntnt's thought would con* v n-t anyone that a publisher has cause for persistent dunning—Way cro“s Herald.
