Ths following ars the city ordinances enacted by the council of the town .of Jackson on February 13th for the year 1894.: Section 1. Be it ordained by the mayor and council of the town of Jack sen, and it is hereby ordained by authoi ity of the same, that the following licen ses shall be levied and collected in the town of Jackson for the year 1894. Sec. 2. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for sale in the town of Jackson, clothing, hats and gents’ furnishing goods, either alone or in connection with other busi ness, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 3. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for r.ale, boots, shoes and shoe findings, cither alone or in connection with other ousiness, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 4. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for sale, dry goods, notions and dress goods, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 5. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering fox sale, heayy groceries and plantation sup plies, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $5, Sec. 0, All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for sale, millinery goods, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax $5. Sec. 7. All persons, firms, comnanies or corporations, selling or offering for sale, fancy and family groceries, confec tionaries, fruits and vegetables, either alone or in connection with other busi ness, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 8. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for Bale, buggies, carts, surreys, carriages, oi wagons, (other than theu- own manu facture) either alone or in connection with other busiuess, shall pay a tax of sls. Sbc. 9. All persons, firms, companies 01 corporations, selling or offering for ■ale, crockery-ware China-ware, glass ware, lamps and lamp fixtures, either alone or in connection with other busi ness, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 10. All persons, firmi, companies oi corporations, selling or offering for sale drugs, patent or proprietory medicines, lither alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of S2O. Sec. 11, All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for sale, surgical instruments, appliances, or optical goods, either alone or in connec tion with other business, shall pay a tax of $5, Sec. 12 All persons, firms, companies or corporation, running a soda fountain, lemonade, milk shakes, and ail cold drinks, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of *5. Sec. 13. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for sale, cider of any kind, whatever, either done or in connection with other busi ness, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 14. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for sale, books or blank books, either alone or in connection with other business, : hall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 15. All persons, firms, companies c r corporations, doing or offering to do R fire insurance business, either alone or in connection with other business, each company or agent, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 16. All persons, firms, companies .1- corporations, doing or offering to do, life or aocident insurance business, ulther alone or in connection with other 1 usiness, #ach company or agent, shall i ay a tax of $25. Skc. 17. Ail persons, firms, companies r corporations, publishing or offering to : üblish a weekly or daily paper, either "lone or in connection with other bus iness, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 18. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, doiug or offering to do a job printing business, orsolieiting job work, either alone or in connection with ether business shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 19, All persons, firms, companies or corporations, doing or offering to do, n banking business, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a lax of $25. Sec. 20. Each loan company, local or foreign, or agent for same, loaning or offering to loan money, shall pay a tax c f . Sec. 21. Each circus, show, opera ompany, minstrel show, or other show v shows of any kind, whatever, shall ; sy a tax in the discretion of the may- Dr for each day or performance. Sec. 22. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, running a shoe repair shop, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of *2.50. Sec. 23. All persons, firms, companies or uorporations, running a harness re pair shop, either alone or in oonneo tion with other business, shall pay a tax of $2.50. Sec. 24. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, teaching or offering to teach, a dnci%g school, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of sls. Sec. 25. All persons, firms, companies or corporations buying or offering to cotton, either alene or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 20. All persons, firms, companies or corporations operating or offering to operate the business of renovating feathers, either alone er in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 27. All persons, firms, companies or corporations selling, or offering to sell, any guano or commercial fertiliz ers, (other than his own manufacture) by itself or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $lO, Sec. 28. All persou6, firms, companies or corporations who shall buy and im port chemicals and other materials for mixing any guano or commercial fertil izers, and who do buy and import such chemicals and other materials for mix ing, and do mix any guano or commer cial fertilizers, and sell or offer to sell such guano or commercial fertilizers, when so mixed, shall be deemed a deal er in guano and commeicial fertilizers, and required to pay the tax required by section 27 of this ordinance. Sec. 29. All persons, firms, companies or corporations running a feed or livery stable, e'ther alone or in connection with other business shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 30. All persons, firms, companies or corporations running a publio ginnery either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 31. All persons, firms, comnanies or copsrations running a bottling works either by itself or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 32. All persons, firms, companies or corporations doing or offering to do the business of an undertaker, either alone or in connection wiih other busi ness shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 33. All persons, firms, companies or corporations selling or offering to sell house or office furniture, either alone or in connection with other business shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 34. All persons, firms, companies or corporations running a blacksmith shop, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $2.50 on each forge. Bec. 35. All persons, firms, eompanies or corporations running or offering to run a wood repair shop, either alone or in connection with other business shall pay a tax of $2.50, Sec. 30. All persons, firms, companies or corporations running a tin or stove repair shop, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $2.50. Sec. 37. All persons, firms, companies or corporations selling or offering to sell lumber, lime, cement, or building ma terial, either alone or in connection with other business shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. BS. All persons, firms, companies or corporations running or offering to run a hotel, either alone or in connec tion with other business shall pay a tax of $lO. 5ec..39. All persons, firms, companies or corporations running or offering to run a restaurant either by itself or in connection with other business shall pay a tax of $5.00. Sec. 40. All male persons between the ages of 10 and 50 years of age shall pay a street tax or commutation tax of $3, or be required to work for six days ou the streets under and by direction of the marshal; and all persons subject to street duty under this ordinance, and who fail or refuse to pay said tax when required to do so, and who fail or refuse to appear to work when summoned by the marshal, shall, on conviction before 1 the mayor be found not to exceed ten dollars or be imprisoned in the guard house and work on the streets not to exceed fifteen days, one or both in the discretion of the mayor. Sec. 41. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, running or offering to run a two horse dray or wagon, either alone or in connection with other busi ness, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 42. All persons, firms, companies or corporations running or offering to run a one-horse dray or wagon either alone or in connection with other busi ness, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 43. All persons, firms companies or corporations, running or offering to run a cotton wars house, either alons or in connection with other businta, shall pay a tax of sls. Sec. 44. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, doing or offering to do the business of an auctioneer, either alone or in connection with other busi ness shall pay a tax of $5 for each day. Sec. 45. All persons, firms, companies or corporations operating or offering to operate a ferreotype or photograph gal lery, or soliciting orders for enlargement of pictures either alone or in sonnection with other business shall pay a tax cf $lO. Sec. 46. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, selling or offering for sale any coal, either alone or in ceneo tion wi*h other business, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 47. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, running or offering to run a shooting gallery, either alone or in connection with other business shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 48. All persons, firms, companies or corporations, running or offering to run a billiard or pool table for pay, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of SSO on each table. Sec. 49. All persons, firms, companies or corporations selling or offering for sale guns, pistols or sporting goods, either alone or in connection with other business shall pay a tax of $5.00. Sec. 50. All persons, firms, companies or corporations selling or offering for sale clocks, watches and jewelry, either alone or in connection with other busi ness, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 51. All persons, firms, companies or corporations buying or offering to buy cotton seed, either alone or in con nection with other business, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 52. All perso*s, firms, compa nies or corporations, keeping a stallion or jack for service shall pay a tax'of $5. for each animal. Sec. 53. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, selling or offer ing for sale, castor oil, spirits turj en due, salt?, sulphur, coperas, paregoric, laudanum or pills, shall be deemed a dealer in drugs and i equii ed to pay the tax required i section 10 of this ordinance. Sec. 54. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, selling or offer ing for sale, sewii.g machines, oth> r than those whose manutactuiei* has paid to the state such taxes as are re quired by the state law. skail pay a tax of $lO. !sec. 55. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, sellingoroffering for sale, domestic wine of his or their own make, shall pay a tax ot $25, provided no such domestic wine when sold shall not be allowed drank on the premises of the seller, and if such per- sons, films, companies or corporations shall permit such domestic wine when so sold to be drank on his orth°ir premises, on conviction before the mayor, shall pay a fine not to exceed titty dollars or be imprisoned in tie guard house amt work ou the streets not to exceed thirty days, one or both in the discretion of the mayor. Sec. 57. All persons, firm?, com pa nies or corporations, running or offer ing to run a barber shoo, shall pay a tax ot $2.50 tor each chair. Sec. 58. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, selling or offer ing for sale, live stock, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax ot $lO. Sec. 59. Ah persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, doing the busi ness as contractor or builders business either alone or i-> connection with other busimse, shall pat a tax oi $5 Sec. 60. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, selling or offer ing for sale, fresh meats, fish or oys ter?, by retailing, (other than their own raising) either alone or in con nection with other busines, shall pay a tax ofss ISec, 61. All persons running a dye house, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $2 50. Sec. 62. All persons, firms, com pa nies or corporations, sellingoroffering sor sale, lightning rods, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $25. Sec. 63. AU persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, sellingoroffering for sale, fruit trees, grape vines or or namental shrubbery, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 64. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, keeping an opera house or hall tor rent, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax ot $5. Sec. 05. All persons, firms, compa nies or coi porations, doing or offering to do, a real estate business, either alone or in connexion with other bus iness, shall pay a tax of $lO, Sec. 66. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, selling or offer ing for sale, gins, engines, mowers reapers or other machinery, either alone or in connection with other bus iness, shall p.y a taxor $5. Sec. 67. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, selling or offer ing for sale, piauos or organs, nit her by themselves or agents, either alone or in connection with other business, shall pay a tax of $lO. Sec. 68. All persons keeping or maintaining a dog or hitch, shall pay a tax ot one dollar, and all peisons keeping or maintaining a dgor bitch shall register such dog or bitch with clerk of council, and the said clerk shall have made or buy a sufficient number of collars or badges, not to exceed the cost of fifty cents each, ano the said clerk shall furnish to each person who registers a dog or bitch such collar or badge, who shall be re quired to put the same on and be worn by such dog or biich, and all dogs or bitches caught on the streets after the passage of this ordinance without said badge or dollar shall be impounded by the marshals, aud no tice of same posted at two or more public places, in <aid city for twenty four hours, nd if no one shall claim aud register and pay the one dollar required by this ordinance, It shall theu bo the duty ot the marshal to kill the same. Sec. 69. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, doing or offering to do, the business of repairing watches, clocks, pistols or guns, shall pay a tax of $2 50. Sec. 70 Each person, firm, compa ny or corporation, that may exerci-e in said city, any trade, business or calling, ot any kind whoever, and have no regular place of business, shall be subject to the same rules, or dinances a -d regulations as other per sons carrying on a like trade, business or calling iu said city. Sec. 71. All persons, firms, compa nies or corporations, selling or offer ing for sale, hardware, stoves, aud stove fixures, either alone or n con unction with other business, shall pay a tax of $5. Sec. 72. All persons, fit ms, < oropa nics or corporations, selling oroffering for sale, pumps, either alone or in connection witn other business, shall pay a tax ot $5. Sec. 73. Be i further ordained, and it is hereby ordained bv authority of the sam that all ordinances in con flict with this ordinance be and the game is herebv repealed Adopted February 13. 1894 M. M.
