day in consultation with Democratic

majority in the district and strong
in his praise of the effective organiz

Did youe/er stop to to think it was
dangerous to leave your cotton in the

Kinacd, the insurance agent.
During the past two weeks several
bales of cotton have been brought from
Spalding County within two miles of
Grffin, to Jackson. One day this
week several bales came from within
a half mile of this same town. Last
Saturday Jackson received about 400
bales, while Griffin got only about
one huadred. Our buyers are paying
the highest prices and the cotton
naturally comes this way. Bring

J. R. Carmichael’s big
iron shop is the place to

We understand that those who had
charge of the Holiness camp-mefcting
made the assertion that the people bf
Jackson diil not give them the pfo
per encouragement and help durlhg
the progress of the meeting. This,
they did not- like. These holiness
people who are sally in the minority
among the Christian people of the
country, ought not. to expect the sup
port and encouragement along their
own line of belief, that those of a more
conservative faith should expect.
However it is characteristic of these
people to charge every one els<* with
being in the wrong, save themselves.
The great majority of Christians will
never accept such extreme ideas a
some of our holiness brethem preach.
Somewhat Social.
As the fall .tnd winter season ap
proaches, Jackson naturally takes on
its social garb and assumes the role
of a society town. The past sum
mer has been one of exceeding dull
ness, socially speaking, and it is hop
ed that with the coining fall and
winter socially, Jackson will be 'more
activp.
A quartet of Jackson’s society peo
ple went up to Locust (#rove Sunday
and spent the day. The party was
composed of Messrs. Ed Vaughn and
Rufus Smith. Misses Annie Carmich
ael and Carrie McCall um. They
were the guests of Miss Pearl Brown
and were entertained royally by this
young lady.

t 1
Miss Owen, who has been visiting
friends in the city for the past month
has returned to her home in Atlanta

t t '
Miss Susie Hooten, a pleasant
young lady of Concord is visiting in
the city.

friends and relatives in Montieello
this week. She will be absent from
the city several weeks.
1 t
Misses Irene and Susie Zehnbar of

hoursy.ist Fric'aY shopping.

Miss Lizzie Slaughter is contem
plating a visit to Montieello at an
early date. She will doubtless have
a pleasant visit as she is very popu
lar in that town.
Democrats Icl *
The J.t -kson District Democratic
Club met at the court house on
Monday night at 8 o’clock. The
meeting was called to order by Chair
man Mallet. The minutes were read
by Sect’y McDonald and approved.
The committee appointed to secure
names for membership reported most
favorably. It was ascertained by re
viewing the names secured that near
ly every man in tlie district has giv
en his name, and that the populist
in the district—if there are any—
were so few as to be impossible of
location. In fact everything looks
bright and encouraging for democ
racy this fall.
Committees were appointed by the
chairman to visit other clubs in the
county and co-operate with them for
mutual good. This method of or
ganization of clubs throughout the
country will prove of inestimable
benefit to democracy and the nomi
nees of the party.
Xo Hunting Till IKov. Ist.
The last legislature changed the
time w-'en hunting might begain,
from Oct. Ist. to Nov. Ist. As this is
a State law, no notice was published
as was the case when we had local
laws on the subject. On this account it
seems to have been overlooked by
many. The Argus calls attention to
toe fact. You cannot begin hunting
until Nov. Ist, instead of Oct. Ist.

Bubtrills district which includes
the pretty little village of Jenkins
burg is one of the strongest democrat
ic precincts in the county and this
is one thing her good people are just
ly proud of. On next Saturday night
they will organize there a democrat
ic club and have extended invitations
to all who affiliate with the demo
cratic party to be present. Jackson
shou’d send up a good representation.
Hon. Alex Atkinson will address the
meeting and it goes without saying
that his speech will be well received.
A large crowd is expected by the
Jenkinsburg democrats and we are
sure their anticapations will be real
ized.
The difference between Pills and Sim
mons Liver Regulator, is just this: Pills
don’t go dowu very easy with most people
and you feel them afterwards, while Sim
mons Liver Regulator in liquid or powder
is very pleasant to take, and the only
teeling that you have afterwards is the
great relief that it gives from Constipa
tion, Biliousness, Sick Headache and
Dyspepsia. It is a mild laxative and a
tonic.
Bryan and free Siller*
Col. Y. A. Wright who has just re
turned from Chicago and the north
west reports everybody for Bryan and
free silver. Col. Wright was in
Chicago at the same time with Bry
an and he says everybody he met
talked interestingly of Bryan and
his candidacy. The people of Chic
ago believe that Bayan will carry
Illinois. In fact the working peo
ple of Chicago are al nost a unit, not
for McKinley, their pretensious ben
efactor, but for Bryan their lead
er and true representative of their
interests. Col. Wright says he was
somewhat surprised at Bryan's
strength is ?ome of the northwestern
states.
The Bind*
Mr. Editor. The lawyers have been
running the democratic party in Butts
County for the past twelve or fifteen
years. In my opinion they are a
party of the State ring. But so far
as Butts County democracy is con
cerned, the people asserted them
selves in the primary this year and
broke the ring to pieces. The self
constituted bosses now see they have
lost their grip on the democrats party
and are trying to take charge of the
populist party. But their little game
wont work, for the populist many of
them, quit the democratic on account
of lawyer bosses, and they will not
now allow or permit the bosses who
drove them out to follow them up
and continue to boss. OBserveß.

Another Well Seeded.
The extremly dry weather has dem
onstrated the fact that Jackson needs
another public well on the square.
The well on t) e north side gives out
every day when their is a crowd in
town, this well being the only one
which is generally used. The one on
the south side of the square is not
good and pure. There should be an
other well dug al the county’sexpense
on west side of square as this sto
would be more convenient than any
other to the business part of the town. •
If the county will not dig this wol!
then the city con; cil should take the
matter up. We should have enough
water for the people and their stock
when they come to Jackson. Let’s
have the well, it is needed and thnt
is a sufficient reason for it being
dug.
