The large, pretentious brick residence et SC

heroine of this interesting story. She is .Mis>

during the past four years are published hen

Miss Steubaugh is a pretty girl of about ‘it
years and is to-day the true picture id tin

the accompanying statement made bv her.

lings That wouldn't Burn.
Harry Clay Norton, of Byron is
sorry that he went to church last
Sunday, and so is his wife. Just be
fore starting he brought in something
less than a bushel of potato bugs and
put them in the stove; then he built
a lire in the stove, and went away
without finding out how w T ell the fire
did up the bugs.
Mr. and Mrs. Norton are congenial
people, and they stayed out till even
ing. When they opened the door of
their house on returning such a mov
ing sight met their gaze that they
came near falling down in a
fit. There were bugs several in
ches deep on every bit of furniture,
and .lie floor could not be trodden on
without crushing a few T dozen assort
ed potato bugs at every step.
An eye-witness lias it that the bugs
were singing Psalm tunes on account
of their escape from cremation, and
were rushing about shaking hands
and winking their other eye at the
poor farmer and his wife as they stood
dumbfounded on the threshold of ihe
door. If the door hadn’t opened out
ward it is doubtful whether they
could have got it open at all. It
took a good part of the scalebacks out
of the house so that it was safe to
stay there, and even then an old
stager would make his appearance in
the preserve jar or take a trip across
the butter plate some days afterwards
