Entertains in Honor of
Mrs. O. A. Pound.
On Thursday afternoon of last
week, from 3:30 to 5:30 o’clock, 1
Mrs. R. N. Etheridge entertained
at her lovely home on Third street
in honor of Mrs. O. A. Pound, of
Grand Rapids, Mich., and Miss
Mattie Kdmondson, of Katonton.
The entire lower floor, decorated
with palms, ferns, violets and jon
quils, was thrown open to the guests
and presented an artistic scene.
Mrs. Etheridge, handsomely gown
ed in black lace over white taffeta,
graciously received her guests, as
sisted by Mrs. J. P. Etheridge and
Misses Arden and Burch. The
punch bowl was presided over by
Miss Martha Pound, dainty in a
lingerie dress. A feature of the
afternoon was the exciting game of
“Bunco,” during which yellow and
violet bonbons were enjoyed. The
same color scheme was carried out
in the score cards. The prizes,
hand-painted pin cushions in vio-
lets and jonquils, were awarded
Mrs. O. A. Pound and Mrs. J. W.
Crum. After the games, yellow
and violet cream and cake were
served. Mrs. Etheridge is a pleas
ing hostess, and always dispenses
that hospitality characteristic of the
Old South. The invited guests

A Flower Party.
One of the prettiest and most de
lightful parties of the week was
given Monday evening by Mrs. A.
p. McMahon to the Girls’ Mission
ary Society of the Baptist church.
The girls represented a flower, hav
ing oil pretty tissue paper dresses
daintily trimmed in different flow
ed, making the parlor scene one of
unusual loveliness. Many popular
games were enjoyed by the boys
and girls, which, with the choice
refreshments and the sweet music,
made the evening one of unusual
pleasure. Air. and Mrs. McMahon
understand well the art of enter
taining.
A Valuable Gift.
Congressman C. L. Bartlett has
sent to the Jackson Public School,
from Washington City, eighteen
mail pouches full of books for the
library. This makes a most valu
able gift to the school, and both
teachers and pupils, as well as the
patrons, appreciate the addition to
the school library.

glass basket filled with a wealth of

played upstairs.

Miss Eloise Pound entertained a
few friends Monday evening in
honor of Mrs. O. A. Pound and
Mrs. Graves. After many enjoya
ble games, salad and coffee was

An Important Meeting.
The Daughters will hold an im
portant meeting at 3 o’clock next
Thursday evening with Mrs. Prank
Etheridge. Everyone is earnestly
urged to be present.
An Honor Well Bestowed
Prof. W. R. Fanier has been
elected one of the Summer school
teachers at the State University.
This is quite ail honor, because it
only goes to the best superinten
dents of the State, and rarely goes
to a place as small as Jackson.

last week, is still unable to leave the
hospital, but it is stated is slowly im
proving. and may probably be

Tuesday to accept a position as phar

succeeding Mr. FI. C. Welch. Mr.
Turner, who has been with one of
the leading drug stores of Macon for
several years, comes highly endorsed
