AVOID SEDATIVE COUGH MEDICINES.
It you whut to contribute directly
to the occurence of capilary bron
icliitis and pneumonia use cough
medicines that contain codine, mor
phine, berion and other sedatives
when you have a cough or cold. An
expectorant like Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy is what is needed.
That cleans out the culture beds or
breeding places for the germs of
pneumonia and other germ diseases.
That is why pneumonia never re
sults from a cold when Chamber

has a world wide reputation for its
cures. It contains no morphine or

Queer Fable About Cotton.
When cotton first came to Europe
to make its principal center in Lan
chashire It was the subject of the
quaint and wonderful fable of the
“Vegetable Lamb." The fluffy white
fibers of the bursting cotton pod so
resembled sheep's wool that travelers
reported that in Tartary there grew a
shrub the fruit or boll of which con
tained “withlnne a lyttle Beaste in
Flesrhe, in Bone and Bloode, as
though It were a lyttle Lanibe with
outer wool.” After the lamb bad been
eaten the wool was made into cloth,
continued this story, which is the
earliest European account of the man
ufacture of cotton.
CHRONIC DYSPEPSIA.

ALL FIND THEIR ADMIRERS
Like Does Not Alwtyt Cling to Like
In the Matrimonial Relation*
Between the Sexes.
Men like all kinds of women, says
Robert Hichens in the Strand Maga
zine. There are ugly men who adore
beautiful women, but there are also
handsome men who worship at the
shrines of women who are quite un
like Helen of Troy. Many good men
have loved, and will love, had wom
en. Who has not seen had men de
voted to saintly women? On the
other hand, the dwarf i6 often capti
vate*] bv the large-framed woman
whose head approaches the ceiling.
I have known deaf women beloved
by talkative men ; lame women cher
ished by men who are agile; stupid
women thought sensible, or even
clever, by men who were brilliant.;
affected women solemnly admired by
the most natural of men; girls who
turned the heads of grandfathers,
and old women who lured mere boys
to their feet.
Effeminate men often seek “man
ly” women, while the delicate wom
an who never leaves the sofa at
tracts the nirnrod and hunter of big
game. The man who does not know
“God Have the King” when he hears
it, as often as not marries the woman
who is “mad about Wagner,” and
the man who never goes to church
chooses as bis helpmate the devout
woman who visits a “district” and
teaches in Sunday school. All kinds
of women are liked—nay, more, are
loved by men. Why not ? For where
is the man who cannot find one
woman —if not, two—to think him
what he probably thinks himself, the
most perfect man in the world—
until the honeymoon is waning?

Mr. William Dixon, in hie hook

head groom. He was a fine sporting
character, and the storv emphasizes
his devotion to sjiort and to his mas

house and asked to see the squire.
“Do you want, owt i’t’ morn, sir ?’’
he inquired.
“No, Willy, I don’t want, anything

“Well, sir, ah was thinkin’ of get

Reman Laws Against Suicide.
Roman laws, permeated with stoic
doctrines, looked indulgently upon
those who took their own life and
frowned only when this means was
employed to evade punishment for
some capital offense. Retribution,
however, lollowed the suicide, for his
goods were confiscated unless some
measures were taken to placate the
reigning and angered Caesar.
