Fifty days of the legislature in one year is enough. An extra session. Help! Looking for a snap? Boost your home community. It is easy and worth while. The sooner Uncle Sam cleans up Mexico the better it will be for all concerned. The Darien Gazette thinks the people would abolish the legislature if they had a vote. Sure thing. Says the Darien|Gazette: “We we would like to see just one Georgia legislature that wasn’t a candidate for something. ” If the cotton farmers of the South can obtain from eight to ten cents per pound for their cot ton this fall there will be no coming. We’ve seen thirty cents with a hole in it used as an illustration of nothing, but that is not near strong enough to express what the recent legislature accomplish ed. Down in Emanuel county some twenty-odd candidates have already announced for office in next year’s primary. Nothing like being in on time, fellows. Go to it. Can it be that some of those legislative patriots were thinking of that per diem and mileage when they forced an extra ses sion on the state? The voters will come to bat next vear and then watch the fur fly. A GREAT EDITION When it comes to doing big things in a big way one has to hand it to the old reliable Macon Telegraph, Georgia’s greatest present day newspaper. The edition of 120 pages issued last week was a triumph of the mod ern newspaper art. Every sec tion, almost, of the state was represented by write-up matter and attractive illustrations. The city of Jackson and Butts county had a page in this issue. The edition was a credit to the Telegraph and to the entire state. It was one of the most effective advertisements for all Georgia that could have been devised. The Telegraph is not only com ing; it has arrived. It is becom ing as necessary th roughout this section as the morning cup of coffee. More strength to the Telegraph and congratulations on this high water mark of Georgia journalism. The people of the Gate City are clamoring for a revival of the old time, genuine Atlanta spirit. The legislature must have been putting it down. The Butts county fair will be the greatest event of the year for the people of Jackson and Butts county. Get ready to make an exhibit and help to push the fair along. WILL IT PAY? Consider these facts carefully if you have not yet finished high school but are thinking of quit ting to “take a job:” The average yearly income of an educated man is $ 1,000 In 40 years he earns 40,000 The average yearly income of an uneducated man is $ 450 In 40 years he earns 18,000 Then, $40,000 minus SIB,OOO equals $22,000, the difference in earnings of educated and unedu cated men. Suppose it will take you two years, nine minths per year, to complete your high school educa tion, or 360 school days; then $22,000 divided by 360 equals over S6O per day your schooling has been worth to you. Will it pay you?—Berry School News. SETTLE IT RIGHT The legislature ought to submit the prohibition issue to the peo ple of Georgia for an expression of opinion at the ballot box. The Progress-Argus believes that pro hibition would be overwhelming ly ratified by the voters of this state. Then the issue would be settled for all time. Having had a vote everybody would be satis fied and accept the result. Too much valuable time is was ted by the legislature at each session wrangling over the pro hibition question. Scheming pol iticians ride the issue for all it is worth. Let’s take the prohibi tion question out of politics. There is but one way to do a thing and that is the right way. Let the people vote on this measure. Then let the state set tle down to peace, • progress and prosperity.
