Crawford visited in Atlanta a few days ago and was accompanied home by Miss Ellen Brownlee, who has been spending several weeks there. Mr. Lewis Orr Powell was over from Newman the latter part of the week visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Newton. Mrs Newton and little son returned with him and spent several days with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Powell. The members of Mrs. J. B. Set tle’s Sunday school class held a business meeting, Saturday after noon, at her home. Among others they packed a box of clothing to be sent to the little girl at the Decatur orphanage, whom they keep up. He came to Georgia from Wilming ton, N. C.. where he was the popular and beloved pastor of the First Baptist church. 7:30 p. m. He will preach also. 9:30 a. m. is Bible School. 3 p. m. Martin entertained the Phi Theta society at a silver tea on last Friday afternoon at her home on College St. On the arrival of the guests punch was served by Misses Byrdinette Manley and Sylvia Lyons. After a very enjoyable contest, refresh ments were served by Miss Mary Lena Martin and Parks Martin, Jr. A good many of the girls were present. The tennis game that was to be played between Jackson High School and Locust Grove Institute on Tuesday afternoon was post poned on account of the weather. The Domestic Science Depart ment is preparing to make an ex hibit at the Butts County Fair next week. The Seniors are enjoying very much the study of Hamlet. The new back and side cur tains, recently installed, add very much to the appearance of the stage. The Phi Theta Society is now studying Silas Marner. James Whitcomb Riley’s birth day was observed here on Oct. 7 by the recitation of two of his poems, “When we eat out on the porch,’’ by Mary Frances Wright and “The Raggedv man,” by Francis Gilmore.
