DEMONSTRATOR NOW AT WORK Mr. Rice Arrived in City Last Week AN EXPERIENCED MAN New Agent Hard at Work Helping Corn Club Boys Gather Acres For The Approaching Contents Mr. G. E. Rice, the new farm demonstration agent, arrived in Jackson last week from Baldwin county where he has been en gaged for the past year. Mr. Rice was to have reached here several davs ago, but found it im possible to turn loose the work in Baldwin county as early as he had expected. With several years experience in laboratories during which time particular attention was given to experiments with fertilizers and soil fertility, Mr. Rice is well qualified to fill the duties of a farm demonstrator. He is a hard and willing worker and has taken hold of the situation in Butts county in a manner that has favorably impressed all who have come in contact with him. Just now Mr. Rice is working overtime trying to get the mem bers of the Boys Corn club lined up for the fair which opens next week. When he arrived on the scene a good many boys had not gathered their acres, but that matter has been attended to and he will have that department in good shape by the opening of the fair Tuesday. Mr. Rice is receiving valuable assistance from Prof. Hugh Mal let and other officials, and will have the co-operation of the peo pie of the entire county. RICE IS CHAIRMAN May Be Decided to Place A Display at Atlanta Harvest Festival in No vember I That Butts county will have an ! exhibit at the State Fair in Macon ,was decided at a meeting of the directors of the local fair associa tion last Friday. Mr. G. E. Rice, the new farm demonstrator, was . appointed chairman of a commit | tee to arrange for this exhibit. Mr. Rice named the other mem bers of the committee, who in clude Messrs. ,1. 0. Gaston, G. E. Mallet, J. Matt McMichael and Mrs. L. D. Singley. The best exhibits at the Butts i j county fair will be taken to Ma ' con and displayed at the state fair. • Several thousand dollars in prizes are offered this year and Butts county stands an exellent show to win some of this money. The question of taking thejex hibits to the Atlanta Harvest Fes tival, where $25,000 in premiums will be awarded, will be decided by the committee. There is no doubt that Butts county will make a fine showing at the state fair in Macon. This is a start in the right direction and it is hoped to have annual exhibits at the state fair hereaf ter. BRITTAIN TO MAKE ADDRESS To Speak at Butts County Fair on 19 WILL BE AT COURTHOUSE Well Known Educator to Add to Attractiveness of Educational Day Pro gram on Tuesday Hon. M. L. Brittain, State Su perintendent of Schools, wdl de liver an address at the Butts County Fair on Tuesday, October 19. The speaking will be imme~ diatelv after the parade in the morning and if the weather is fa vorable Mr. Brittain will make his address on the court house square. He is an educator of note and? as the head of the school system of Georgia will be given a cordial welcome. Mr. Brittain will like ly talk on education. His address will be one of the main features of the Educational Dav program. Tuesday will be one of the big gest days of the entire fair. The parade Tuesday morning will be the first big gun. To see all the school children in the county in line, the Canning Club and Com Club members, the floats and au tomobiles, will be an inspiring i spectacle.
