NEWS OF INTEREST IN THE ~ SOCIAL REALM U. D. C. Meeting Mrs. H. W. Copeland. Mrs. R. W. Oxford, Mrs. J. Bluma Car michael and Mrs. J. H. Turner will entertain the members of the Larkin D. Watson chanter. U. D. C. Thursday afternoon of next week at three o’clock at the home of Mrs. Copeland. Mothers Club Mrs. Raymond Carmichael was hostess to the members of the Young Mothers club Thursday afternoon. There was no pro gram, but the hour passed pleas antly for both the mothers and the little folks. Salads, sandwich es and coffee were daintily served. Mrs. R. L. Carter entertains the club Thursdav afternoon, at her horrie on Mulberry street. Wading Party. Mrs. 0. P. Jinks and Mrs, J. H. Norsworthy chaperoned fif teen children on a wading party at Watson’s pasture Saturday morning. Nuts and hawes were hunted and lunch was served un der a beautiful willow. Merry games were played and the day was an ideally pleasant one to the little folks composing the party. Parent-Teacher Meeting The Paren t-Teacher Association will hold its regular November meeting Wednesday afternoon of next week at 3:30 o’clock at the school auditorium. Not only the members but every patron of the school is earnestly invited to be present. The association is lab oring hard in the interest of ev ery child in school and they hope to enlist the co-operation of the parents. Come out to the meet ing next Wednesday and start now to help in the work for the school children. Miss Newton Hostess The members of the Tuesday bridge club met this week with Miss Rosa Newton, at her sub urban home and re-organized for the winter months. Tuesdays at two o’clock was the day set for the meetings and the same offi cers were continued in office. A series of games were played and salads and hot tea was served. The players included Misses Rosa and Mary Newton, Mes dames T. H. Buttrill, W. E. Watkins, A. T. Buttrill, W. H. Mallet, Stewart Abbott, of At lanta, R. P. Newton. J. D. Jones. Stanfield-Mallet Of state-wide interest is the announcement of the engage ment of Miss Jane Stanfield to Mr. Hugh Mallet, which was made public Sunday. Miss Stan field possesses rare beauty, men tal attainments and womanly •harms and is a greatly admired young woman. Her unaffected manner wins friends easily. Mr Mallet graduated from Em ory college several years ago and, entered business here with thej most flattering prospects. He is influential and is regarded as one of the foremost young business men of this section. No formal date for the wedding has been given out Mrs. Settle Hostess A most interesting meeting of the D. A. R. chanter was held Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. J. B. Settle. The regent, Mrs. J. P. Etheridge, presided and rout ine business matters were dis cussed. A talk on William Mc- Intosh, the Indian chief, for whom the chapter was named was given by Miss Annie Lou McCord. In this was given an account of his tragic death and of his last resting place, which is marked only by a heap of stones. Miss Ezra Morrison rendered several musical selections in her own inimitable way. A most appetizing salad course with ices, was served and this was followed with coffee. Mrs. Morrison Settle and Mrs. C. R. Gresham assisted Mrs. Set tle. PERSONAL Col. A. W. Lane was up from Macon Tuesday. Mr. J. B. Guthrie went to At lanta Wednesday. Mr. J. W. Maddox was a visitor to the city Wednesday. Mr. J. B. Thomas has returned from a visit to Helena, Ark. Judge A. H. Ogletree was a visitor to the city Tuesday. Mr. H. G. Asbury was a wel come visitor to the city Tuesday. Miss Davie Fletcher spent the week-end with friends in Macon. Dr. A. F. White was a visitor to the city from Flovilla Tuesday. Mr. R. H. Henderson was in the city Tuesday from Flovilla. Judge and Mrs. J. H. Ham at tended the fair in Macon Wed nesday. Mr. William McClure, of At lanta, spent the week-end with his parents. * Mr. H. D. Terrell, of Newton county, was a business visitor here Tuesday. Dr. E. F. Dempsey, of Emory college was a prominent visitor here this week. Mrs Glen Landers, of Dalton, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McClure. Mrs. Lucy Dozier Douglas, of Flovilla was the guest, Tuesday of Mrs. P. W. Nolen. Miss Annie Lou McCord spent the week-end in Macon with Mr. and Mrs. C. R. McCord. Miss Nannie Belle Jinks is in Mechanicsville, where she will teach during the fall months. Miss Emmalu Nolen who teach es at Wayside spent Saturday and Sunday with her parents Mrs. Rose Carmichael attended the Macon Fair and was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. L. .P Lester. Messrs. J. "B. Childs, W. J. Bankston and C. H. Farrar were visitors to the city Tuesday from Jenkinsburg. His friends will be pleased to learn that Mr. J. B. Thomas has accepted a position with the Jackson Mercantile Company. [ Mr. J. M. T. Mayo attended the grand lodge meeting in Ma con last week and was the guest of his nieces, ths Misses Chiles. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Abbott* of Atlaptft, were guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Buttrijl and together they motored to Macon Tuesday fpr the day. Mr. and Mrs. Joe McMichael, Mr. and Mrs. .J. W. Moore, Mrs. Sherrod Biles, Mrs. Fannie Mae Maddox were visitors to the state fair at Macon, this week. Mrs. J. E. Lane visited the state fair in Macon this week and before returning will visit her brother, Mr. W. L. Thornton, in Sparta. Mrs. R. J. Carmichael enter tained the members of the newlv organized Forty-Two club. Wed nesday afternoon, at her home on Third street.
