MRS. CHAS. PEDEN
GAINS 27 POUNDS
Was Twice Examined, and
Each Time Told Opera
tion Only Hope
“I have just finished my third
bottle of Tan lac and have gained
twenty-seven pounds, ” was the
truly remarkable statement made
by Mrs. Charles Peden, residing
at 550 mill street, Huntsville, Ala.
Mrs. Peden is one of the best
known and highly respected wo
men of that city, where she has
made her home for a number of
years.
“When I commenced taking
the medicine,” she continued, “I
only weighed (98) pounds; now
I weigh 125 pounds, and never
felt better in my life. For years
I have suffered with a bad form
of stomach trouble, constipation
and pains in my side and back.
At times the pains took the form
of torture and I was twice exam
ined and each time I was told that
I had appendicitis and that an op
eration would be my only hope.
I had fallen off until I only weigh
ed ninety-eight pounds and was
so weak I could hardly get around.
“I had no appetite at all scarce
ly, and what little I did eat would
cause gas to form in my stomach,
which gave me palpitation of the
heart, sick headaches and a dizzy
feeling about the head. When
these spells came on me I would
get awfully nervous. I worried
about myself until I could rest
and sleet* but little.
“I had fallen off until I was al
most ‘skin and bones’ and my
strength and energy were slowly
leaving me. I had|a dread ofthefu
ture and could see nothing but the
operating table and knife. I had
a perfect horror of operation, but
had made up my mind that it was
either life or death, and prepared
to submit to it. I had made all
preparations for the operation
and called in my sister to tell her
goodbye, as I did not know 7 wheth
er I would live to see her again or
not. My sister begged and plead
ed with me not to allow tnem to
cut on me, and told me'to wait and
try a good tonic for awhile. The
next day, as I returned from the
consultation room, I thought of
what she said, and as I had heard
so much about Tanlac, I decided
to try it as a last resort and stop
ped at Gilbert’s Drug Store and
got a bottle of it. Of course, I had
lost heart and had no faith in the
medicine, but to please my sister
I made up my mind to take it,
and, oh what a happy day that
was for me!
“I never returned for the ope
ration, but just keep taking Tan
lac. Right from the start I began
to feel better. The medicine
seemed to take hold right at once.
It had a soothing effect and in a
few days I felt no pains at all.
I was so happy over the wonder
ful improvement in my condition
that I sent for my neighbors to
tell them how much better I felt.
I sent and got another bottle of
Tanlac, and have just finished
taking my third bottle and feel
like I have been made all over
again into anew woman.
“As I have said before, I now
weigh 125 pounds and my improve
ment has been so rapid that none
of my clothes are big enough for
me. I will have to make them
all over again. 1 now have a ra
venous appetite and my husband
says I am simply eating him out
of house and home. I have even
gone back to my coffee, which I
was told not to touch. Those ter
rible pains in my back and head
have all disappeared and I sleep
like a child. lam no longer ner
vous and when I get up mornings
I fee) refreshed, cheerful and
bright. lam now able to attend
to my household duties and I feel
as if I had started life all over
again. My husband is highly de
lighted and my recovery is the
talx of the neighborhood. Ido
nothing but rejoice all day long
over my recovery of my health
and praise Tanlac to everbody.
“I feel so grateful for my es
cape from the operating table and
the knife, that you may publish
what I have said; if you wish,
tell other women suffering as I
was to come and see me, I will
be glad to tell them all about my
case.”

FfIOST NIPPED TOP COTTON
STATES PLOW HANDLES
Well the frost has come at last
and has settled the top cotton
question. There has been a great
deal said about there being a
bumper top crop of cotton, like
there is always said. Now, if
the rains had set in the 20th of
August and continued there
might have have been a top crop
worth something, but when cot
ton blooms after the 15th of Sep
tember you needn’t look for cot
ton to open worth anything after
that date.
And here let me say that those
who live in town apd deal in cot
ton and don’t know the nature of
cotton growing in the field, just
get in your automobile some of
these bright, crisp mornings just
as the sun is peeping over the
eastern hills and is kissing the
dew drops from theautum le ves
go into any fifty acre field and
you will see that your dreams
are gone. You had just as well
look in a last year’s bird nest for
eggs as to look for a top crop
this time.
I have seen a good top crop of
cotton one or two times in my
life, but it was when the rains
set in in August, after a long
drouth. And so the top crop
question is now settled for at
least this season, and the cotton
bear will have to get up some
other hobby to depress the price
of cotton.
