For you the midnight bells are ring ing; For you the choristers are singing. Come in, new year, come in! D. A. R. Meeting Mrs. J. H. Wright will be hos tess to the D. A. R. chapter members next Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at her home on West Avenue. All members are ex pected to be present. For Misses Allen In compliment to her attractive nieces. Misses Emma and Laura Allen, Mrs. W. E. Watkins was hostess at a pretty party on Wed nesday afternoon. Rook was the interesting game and there were three tables. A sweet course was served late in the afternoon, when the games were over. Preston-Preston The marriage of Mrs. Dixie Morton Preston and Rev. G. B. Preston, of Auburn, Alabama, took place Sunday afternoon at three o’clock at Flovilla, Rev. W. 0. Sharp, officiating. Later in the week, they will leave for their home in Alabama. Mrs. Preston has many friends who regret that her marriage necessitates her re moval from Butts county. Miss Wright Hostess A bright and happv occasion for the schoolgirl set was the par tv given Tuesday evening by Miss Annie Rose Wright at her home on Third street. For the devotees of games there were various kinds to enjoy and bright music made the hours pass merri ly. A salad course was served the large number of boys and girls, who enjoyed Miss Wright’s charming hospitality on this oc casion. Sunday School Classes Entertained The young ladies of Mrs. J. B. Settle’s Sunday school class enter tained on Monday afternoon for the young men of Mr. T. J. Demp sey's class, at the home of Mrs. Settle. For several weeks there has been a contest on, Mr. Demp sey’s class winning, hence the party given by the young ladies. The home was lovely in its fes tive decorations and the boys and girls made merry during the hours spent there. There was music and games and bright con versation and no small feature of the happy occasion was the pic nic lunch served by the girls. The affair was thoroughly en joyed by both classes and a few invited friends. Informal Bridge Mrs. W. E. Watkins was hostess at an informal bridge party on Tuesday afternoon. The tables were arranged in the living room, which was attractively decorated in smilax, bamboo and holly. The salad course served was un usually pretty, being garnished with pimento strips to represent poinsettas. A sweet course fol lowed the salad. The players in cluded: Misses Mary and Rosa Newton, Ina McMichael, Exie Ham, Mesdames A. T. Buttrill, Hugh Mallet. E. H. Stephens, G. E. Mallet. L. M. Crawford, C. R. Robinson, of Atlanta, W. H. Mal let, W. M. Settle, J. D. Jones. PERSONAL Mrs. A. H. Smith returned, Monday, to Atlanta. Bert Jinks is spending several davs with relatives here. Miss Viola Slaughter is spend ing the week in Atlanta. Miss Annie Lou McCord returns Saturday from Douglassville. Mrs. B. F. Watkins and Joe spent Wednesday in Atlanta. Miss Kathleen Joyner is visit ing relatives in College Park. Dr. W. H. Steele was in the city Monday from High Falls. Bert Carmichael spent Monday in Macon with Andrew Lane. Miss Nettie Barret was the re cent guest of Miss Gertrude Jinks. Mr. B. A. Wright was in the city Tuesday fromlndian Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carmichael visited in Macon, during the holi days. Mrs. W. M. Settle and Mrs. J. B. Settle spent Thursday in At lanta. Mrs. W. O. Ham has as her guest, Mrs. Virginia Glover, of Atlanta. Misses Anna and Olive Rambo are spending the holidays in Bluffton. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brown an nounce the birth of a son, De cember 25. Miss Carrie Knott spent the week-end with homefolks in Lo cust Grove. Miss Evelyn Wright has been spending the past few days with homefoiks. Miss Lula Ham was down from Atlanta spending Sunday with homefoiks. Mrs. W. H. Maddox is in Val dosta visiting Mr. and Mrs. Har vey Maddox. Dr. and Mrs. R. A. Franklin and Robert spent the week-end in Barnesville. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Robinson and Stillwell returned Wednes day to Atlanta. Mrs. Edward Cornell, of Indian Springs, spent the holidays with Mrs. S. 0. Ham. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Buchan an were up from Macon this week visiting relatives. Miss Florrie Pye, of Monticel lo, was the guest this week of Mrs. Annie Curry. Mrs. J. P. Etheridge and two sons are spending a month in Perry with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. Gel fman an nounce the birth of a daughter, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brown are occupying the Lane residence on Third street. Prof. Van Fletcher, of Law renceville, visited relatives here during the holidays. Mr. L. H. Hendrick has been spending some time in New Or leans and Porto Rico. Mrs. L. J. Farguson, of McDon ought, is spending several days with Mrs. J. C. Kinard. Miss Eloise Slaton, of Atlanta, spent Saturday and Sunday with Dr. and Mrs. H. R. Slaton. Mrs. R. S. Womble and two children, of Jacksonville, are guests of Mrs. Emily Jinks. Messrs. Harris and Miss Nina Harris visited Mrs. Marvin Turner, in McDonough, the past week. Jim Newton, of Cochran, was the guest part of the week of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Newton. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Goodwin have rooms at Mrs. J. T. Moore’s since the burning of their home last week. Mr. W. L. Sams, of Washing ton, D. C., spent the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Sams. Prof. W. F. Burford, of War then Institute, Wrightsville, was the guest of relatives here during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. George Gilmore, of Jenkinsburg, moved this week into the Harris home on East Third street. i Mr. C. Thornton Buchanan, of Birmingham, spent part of the week here with Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Buchanan. Prof. C. L. Carter, of Drake town. spent part ot the week here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Carter. Mrs. James F. Carmichael and Mr. George Carmichael leave in a few days for Atlanta to reside permanently. Mr. H. L. Daughtry, Misses Laura Daughtry and Dovie Bry ans and Hampton Daughtry went to Atlanta Saturday to witness the production of “The Birth of a Nation.’ * Dr. and Mrs. H. QuiggFletcher, of Chattanooga, spent part of the week here with Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Etheridge. Miss Nelle Hendrick will come down from Atlanta. Saturday, to spend Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Ida Hendrick. Mrs. J. W. McClure and little daughter, Lottie, spent a few days recently in Dalton with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Landers. Mrs. W. M. Mallet, Misses Pauline Mallet and Lucile Elder will leave early in January for an extended stay in Florida. Col. and Mrs. J. B. Moore and little daughter, Rheba, of Baxley, spent part of the week with Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Walthall. Mrs. H. H. Hooten, of Atlanta, is the guest of her father, Mr. W. H. Maddox. Mr. Hooten was down for the day, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Baker and children, have returned to Atlan ta. after spending the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. S. 0. Ham.
