Swear off now and you’ll be
used to it by the first of May.
Here’s to the new year’s reso
lution never made but always
kept.
Bi-ennial sessions? Sure, we’re
for bi-ennial sessions of the leg
islature.
Let’s see if we can’t land some
new enterprises for the commu
nity before the year is out.
Resolve to do as you darn please
—as long as you treat everybody
right—and let it go at that.
Buttermilk may yet be the na
tional drink. It has no headaches
and contains no remorse.
Did you resolve to trade with
home merchants this year? Well,
that’s one resolution you ought
to keep.
The more we see of Atlanta
and her recall troubles the more
we are in favor of Macon for the
state capital.
The mayor of Savannah says
he will enforce the prohibition
law in that city. Good. Enforce
the law or repeal it.
A total of nineteen states are
now in the prohibition column,
seven states having joined the
dry ranks January first.
Georgia will put in the field |
this year more than five thousand i
candidates for the various offices. 1
Take some ring to hold all these,
hats.
to'liw honestly, pay
Vour just debts, give eve\y man
a sou are deal and boost your
home town and you can’t go far
wrong.
If the people of Georgia could
get rid of the prison commission
and a score or so of other useless
public officials. it would be fine
business.
Now that leap year is upon us,
we hope to see the bashful young
editor of the Monroe Advertiser
led to the altar by some corn fed.
Et, tu, Duke, of the Griffin News.
With this issue the Progress-
Argusbegins its forty-fourthy ear.
In the years to come, as in the
years past, the paper will strive
to serve the community faithfully
and work for the best interests
of Butts county and her citizens.
The Macon papers are not
warming, up to Governor Harris
in his second campaign very fast.
Come on, boys, it’s loyalty to
support home candidates.
Wish some of the candidates
for state offices had the nerve to
run without promising to reduce
taxes, and when they get elected
consistently lie about it.
If the L. & N. railroad persists
in trying to parallel the state
road an extra session of the leg
islature may be called, it is sta
ted. Extra sessions are getting
to be common things.
The Main Question
A man asks: “Is it durable?”
A woman asks: “Is it stylish?”
A child asks: “Is it good to
eat?” —Judge.
Butts county should make this
the best year of all in the corn,
canning, pig and poultry club
work. The state will need all the
hog and hominy it can muster
when the boll weevil arrives.
When public officials regard
public business as a sacred trust,
instead of a means of rewarding
political supporters, you’ll hear
less bellyaching and grumbling
about high taxes.
A WORTH WHILE KING
From the Jackson, Miss., News:
He rode on the observation plat
form of a cotton wagon.
His fleecy staple had just
brought 12 cents per pound.
The money was down in his
pocket.
No man had an account against
him of a dime.
The mules trotted along over
the smooth pavement and his
wagon was well filled with things
needed for the family larder.
A neat bundle over in the cor
ner contained a dress pattern, ten
yards of blue checked gingham
for the faithful wife.
The little bag was full of candy
for the baby.
He whistled as Pete and Buck
turned their heads homeward.
It was near eventide; a few
clouds had gathered over in the
west and the sun was cutting
MOTHER! DON’T TAKE
CHANCES IF CHILD'S
TONGUE IS COATED
If cross, feverish, sick, bil
ious, clean little liver and
bowels
A laxative today saves a sick
child tomorrow. Children sim
ply will not take the time from
play to empty their bowels, which
become clogged up with waste,
liver gets sluggish, stomach sour.
Look at the tongue. Mother! If
coated, or your child is listless,
cross, feverish, breath bad, rest
less, doesn’t eat heartily, full of
cold or has sore throat or anv
other children’s ailments, give a
teaspoonful of “Syrup of Figs,"
then don’t worry, because it is
perfectly harmless, and in a few
hours all this constipated poison*
sour bile and fermeting waste
will gently move out of the bow
els. and you have a well, playful
child again A thorough “inside
cleansing” is oftimes all that is
necessary. It should be the first
treatment given in any sickness.
Beware of counterfeit fig syr
ups. Ask your druggist for aSO
cent bottle of “California Syrup
of Figs,” which has full direc
tions for babies, children of all
ages and for grown-ups plainly
printed on the bottle. Look care
fully and see that it is made by
the “California Fig Syrup Com
pany.” adv
