The same directors were re

MR. CARTER MAY RUN

perintendent
It is likely Mr. R. L. Carter
will make the race for County
School Superintendent in the 1916
primary. He has not made any
positive statement as to his plans
but in political circles he is re
garded as a probable candidate.
Mr. Carter is a prominent bus
iness man, having been a mem
ber of the firm of Ham & Carter
Company for several years. He
is a son of Mr. J. 3. Carter and a
member of one of the county’s
leading families. Mr. Carter is
a young man of splendid educa
tion and is well equipped through
training and experience to fill
this important office.
Mr. Carter’s friends have been
urging him to get in the race. A
large and encouraging support
would be accorded him from the
first. He is held in the highest
esteem by all who have had bus
iness dealings with him and in
case he decides to enter the con
test it is predicted he will make
a strong race.
Mr. Carter was mentioned for
this office for the unexpired term
of Mr. C. S. Maddox but did not
make an active canvass before
the Board of Education. A def
inite answer from Mr. Carter is
expected in the next few weeks.

Argus Mrs. Buttrill was a sister'
of the late Capt. J. W. McCord,,
and Messrs. H. Y. McCord, of
Atlanta, and Joe McCord, of
Crawfordville:
Longview, Texas. Jan. 5. —
Mrs. R. E. Buttrill, oldest resident
of this place, died at her hornet
here after a short illness. She
was in her eighty-fourth year,,
and is said to have lived in the
first house ever built in Longview
moving into it the day it was
completed. She leaves several
daughters and a number of
grandchildren, prominent among
whom is Mrs. John Womack of
Marshall, a daughter. Funeral
tomorrow afternoon.—Shreveport
