NEWS ■ ■ = OF INTEREST IN THE - SOCIAL REALM Chapter Presents Pictures to School Library The Larkin B. chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, through its president, Mrs. L. D. Watson, has presented pictures of Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis to the school library. The pictures are handsomely framed and by this fitting gift the chap ter shows what deep interest is manifested in the school library. Marks-Andrews The marriage of Miss Rebecca Marks and Mr. J. Lee Andrews took place Sunday aftetnoon in Monticello, the Rev. ■ Walker Combs of the Baptist church per forming the ceremony. Mrs. An drews as Miss Marks was a pop ular young lady and numbers her friends by her acquaintances. Mr. Andrews is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Andrews an 4 a very prosperous young planter. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew’s visited relatives in Jasper county this week. They will reside at Mr. Andrews' home near Jack son. U. D. C. Meeting The initial meeting of the Lar kin D. Watson chapter, U. D. C. for 1916 was held on Thursday afternoon with Mrs. H. W. Cope land, the other hostesses being Mrs. J. B. Carmichael, Mrs. R. W. Oxford and Mrs. J. H. Turner. The spacious home, which is so admirably suited to entertaining, was unusually attractive with many stately palms and ferns. Fragrant narcissi werein evidence oi the mantels. After a short business session an interesting program was rendered, Dr. Rob ert Van Deventer making a splen did talk on Gen. Robert E. Lee. Others on the progam were Mrs. W. E. Merck, Mrs. J. W. Crum, Rev. Olin King and Rev. Isaac Miller. “America” was chosen as the chapter song for 1916, a committee of three having been appointed sometime ago to make a selection. When the program was over, an elaborate salad course with hot coffee was served the guests. With a large and enthusiastic membership, the meetings are always well at tended and thoroughly enjoyed. PERSONAL Mrs. A. C. Smith is recovering from her recent illness. Wright Watkins was up from Indian Springs, Wednesday. Mrs. R. N. Etheridge is expec ted home from Florida this week. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Kimbell spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Atlanta. Misses Viola Slaughter andße ba Johnson will spend Saturday in Atlanta. Buttriil has been sick for the past few days, his friends will be sorry to learn. Mrs. Hugh Mallet spent the first of the week in Atlanta with Mrs. John W. Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Goodwin will move next week into a cot tage on McDonough street. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Maddox spent Saturday in Atlanta with Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hooten. Mrs. Mary Heflin returns next week to Sparta after a two w T eeks visit to relatives here. Mrs. George Damour, of At lanta, is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Carmichael. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Miller at tended the Coca Cola Bottlers convention in Atlanta last week. Miss Mary Newton expects to leave next week to visit friends in Fitzgerald, Cairo and Talla hassee. Mr. Leon Wood will leave Thursday to enter the Eastman Business College at Poughkeep sie, N. Y. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Reese, of Atlanta, spent Sunday with Mrs. J. R. Carmichael and Mrs. A. H. Carmichael. Mrs. G. E. Mallet and Mrs. W. H. Mallet were guestsat a dining given Tuesday by Mrs. E. D. Tolleson at her home in McDon ough. Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Slaughter and Miss Fannie Slaughter expect to leave next week for a visit to Dr. and Mrs. T. K. Slaughter in Summerfield, Florida. Miss May Bickers, who has been in California for the past year and a half visiting the Ex position and other points of in terest, will spend the months of January and February with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.
