Butts County Gets Two-Thirds
The Taxes Involved in Dispute
According to reports received
in Jackson from Atlanta Wed
nesday the litigation between
Jasper and Butts counties over
the taxes of the Central Georgia
Power Company and the bounbary
line, has been settled, by a con
sent decree. Butts county gets
approximately two-thirds of the
taxes in dispute—about the same
as before the costly and long
drawn out litigation was started.
The Central Georgia Power Cos.
returns its property in the two
counties at $720,000. A few
years ago Jasper county decided

MRS. L. M. ATKINSON
CLAIMED BY DEATH
Mrs. L. M. Atkinson, aged 64,
wife of Mr. L. M. Atkinson, can
didate for Tax Collector of Butts
county, died at her home near
Jenkinsburg at 7o’clock VVedne -
day n : ght. She had been in fee
ble health for some time but was
critically ill only a few days. Her
passing came as a shock to many
friends.
Before her marriage Mrs. At
kinson was a Miss Kimbell and
was a member of a prominent
family of the county. She was a
most estimable Christian charac
ter and was held in high and af
fectionate regard by a large cir
cle of friends. She was a mem
ber of County Line church and
her life was one of good deeds,
unselfish family devotion and in
her passing the community suf
fers a permanent loss.
The surviving relatives are her

gee river since 1829, was brought
into the litigation.
The taxes for the years 1913,
1914 and 1915 have been tied up
pending the outcome of the liti
gation. Each county will receive
a large sum in taxes, now that
the case has been settled.

The many friends of Mrs. An
drew Hamlin will be sorry to
learn she is confined to her room
on account of a serious illness.
We hope for her speedy recovery.
Mr. Wright Maddox has re
signed his position as electrician
at Bibb and is now at Iron Springs
overseeing his farm.
Mr. Ed Murray has taken the
place of Mr. Wright Maddox as
electric operator at Bibb. We
hope for him much success in his
business, as Mr. Maddox was op
erator for about three years.

Lummus was the week-end guest
of Miss Florence Hamlin.
Quite an enjoyable affair was
the supper given by Mr. and Mrs.
Will Fincher Friday night in hon
or of Misses Florence Hamlin and
Sallie Lummus.

The petition of J. D Jones, L. M. Crawford.
F. S. Etheridge. J. H. Mills. 8. H. Mays, of
said state and county, respectfully shows:
1. That they desire for themselves, their as
sociates, successors and assigns, to be incor
porated and made a body politic under the
name and style of BUTTS COUNTY FAIR
ASSOCIATION" for a period of twenty years.
2. The principal offieeof said company shall
be in the City of Jackson, said state and coun
ty aforesaid.
8. The object of said corporation Is pecu
niary gain to itself and its shareholders.
4. The business to be carried on by said
corporation is the promulgation of educatiou
al Ideas pertaining to agricultural pursuits,
stock raising and allied subjects, manufactur
ing. home lndustriesand all kindred subjects,
bv means of assembling the same together un
der proper regulations and restrictions in the
manner and according to the methods ordi
narily adopted by carrying on what is com
monly knowD as a fair.
6. The capital stock of ssid corporation
shall be five thousand ($5,000 CO) dollars, with
the privilege of increasing the same to the
sum of fifty thousand ($5.0000 00) dollars or
anv sum less than fifty thousand dollars, by a
majority vote of the stockholders, said stock
