MACON WILL (ENTERTAIN
GEORGIA EDUCATORS
The most important meeting of
Georgia educators in recent years
will be that which convenes in
Macon on the 20th of this month.
Perhaps one thousand teachers
will be gathered together in this
51st convention of the Georgia
Educational Association to consid
er the needs of the schools of the
state.
The great questions of compul
sory education and elimination of
adult illiteracy will receive atten
tion. The fact that Georgia
stands 44th educationally in the
roll of states, and that illiteracy
is on the increase in 50 counties
of the state make these questions
of vital interest.
The bill for compulsory educa
tion has twice passed the senate
and both candidates for governor
are understood to have declared
themselves in tavor of such legis
lation.
Every city, town and county
board is expected to grant its
teachers holiday on Friday, April
21st, in order that they may at
tend this convention. Atlanta,
Macon, Tifton, Americus, Fort
Valley, Commerce, Albany and
numerous other towns have alrea
dy done this, as well as a number
of counties.
