The voters ought to do their own choosing. Editor Fouche is as good an editor as he was a#public official. He is giving the people of Henry county the best paper they have had since we were acquainted with the situation. Do you want to have a voice in naming the governor or do you prefer for a few politicians to se lect the governor in the conven tion? Better do some studying then when you go to vote. When your home paper begs, advises and pleads with the people to trade at home and patronize community institutions, it should follow' that the home paper be given the business of the mer chants. New counties develop the country, cause new schools and churches to be erect ed, make for greater prosperity, and where the cause is merito rious, as in the present instance, we’re for more new counties. Emmet Houser, of Fort Valley, lawyer, statesman and editor, was a recent visitor to Jackson. RIDING A FREE HORSE A considerable part of the pub lic makes such free use of such newspapers as it finds available that in time they come to be look ed upon not as business enter prises but as public conveniences which have no rights of their own, but are maintained merely to make it easy to reach the pub lic ear. Every newspaper gives away hundreds, thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of space according to the paper’s size and circulation. A newspaper’s space costs the pub lisher money—cold, hard cash even as the lawn or silk in the dry goods store, or the bacon and flour in the grocery store, cost the merchant cash. Nobody thinks of asking the merchant for his merchandise, although a great many folks unhesitatingly Call on newspapers for as much valuable space as may be required for the promotion of whatever worthy enterprise such folks hap pen to be interested in.
