A lot of beefing, bulling and bellyaching is mostly for political effect. Elect" the governor for four fears and make him ineligible for re-election. Biennial sessions of the legisla ture is the one thing Georgia ■•eds most of all. Woman sulfrage will be a pro lific time-killer at the present session of the legislature. Florida elected a governor named Catt. Ought not to be any mice in the executive mansion. Henry county will abolish the office of county treasurer at the present session of the legislature. Personally we think the Fifth regiment, "Atlanta’sown, "ought to be sicked on the greasers first of all. Governor Harris is a better gov ernor than he has been given credit for. He needs a press agent. That jury in Alabama that drank up the booze evidently be lieved in preparedness without waiting. Ignorance, prejudice, personal abuse, villification—these are responsible for a lot of the unrest of the present time. A candidate ought to be elect ed on his merits and not on prom ises only. The one who makes the most promises will bear close watching. A politician that can’t be elect ed to office without arousing pre judice and passion arid doing some plain lying is not fit to be made dog catcher. Savannah is having an awful squabble over the liquor-political question. And what’s more, the public is being afflicted with Savannah’s troubles. Damn a man that never has a kind word for anybody.—Greens boro Herald-Journal. That is a forceful and direct wav of saying what we all think. Where is the Joe Pottle boom? —Jackson Progress-Argus. Didn’t know there had ever been a Joe Pottle boom, and don’t believe there will ever be a Joe Pottle boom in Georgia.—La- Grange Graphic. TICKS AND OFFICE SEEKING The cattle tick has been under fire for several years. The United States government is after the pest, and the states are on his trail. The day of the festive tick seems to be numbered. The cattle tick has played many parts, acted many roles, caus ed considerable agitation and disturbance, but now that the pest is being drawn into politics the climax has been reached. Take the tick out of politics. The people are onto the game and it won’t work. The tick-political boom has been punctured. THE JACKSON HOME GUARDS The soldier who is at the front protecting his home and yours deserves all the consideration that can be shown him. He is rep resenting his country. He is a patriot. Men called to the colors, forced to leave their families and give up good salaries to accept sls a month, show patriotism of the highest order. In many cases these soldiers gave up good posi tions paying from $75 to $l5O a month. Think of the condition in which their families are now placed. Families of soldiers will not be able to live out of the sls paid enlisted men for fighting their country’s battles. The duty de volves upon the citizens at home to take care of the families of men at the border. Let Jackson take the initiative in this matter. The citizens of the community can raise a considerable sum and see that no family is allowed to suffer on account of the absence of the head of the family. Business men can help. Not only hold the job open for the man who has joined the colors, but continue his pay. He is mak ing a sacrifice in offering up his services, perhaps his life, and why shouldn’t the employer also make a sacrifice? Dallas, Texas, is raising a fund of SB,OOO to take care of 104 dependent families of soldiers in that city. Jackson must do her full duty by the men in khaki who have answered their country’s call. Mexico isn’t United States size and it looks bad for a strong na tion to have to jump on a weak one, but something must be done if this country is to maintain its self respect. To read the Atlanta papers one would think the Fifth regiment could clean up Mexico before breakfast. It was the Second regi ment, to which the Jackson comp any is attached, that was the first to mobilize. About all ot the staff of The Forsyth Advertiser belongs to the national guard, but Capt. Bloodworth is a resourceful gen ius and we expect that execellent paper to be issued in the same old way. It looks like Uncle Sam will have to spank those Greasers, after all.—Greensboro Herald- Journal. Yes, spank ’em after all, all over, in the veranda, rotunda, vestibule and other vital spots. The daily papers are advancing the price of subscription. It had to come. Newspapers have sold too cheap.—Jackson Progress- Argus. If they don’t get more money for their subscription and advertising they will have to quit business. The highness for all newspaper supplies are forcing all newspapers to increase their rates.—Griffin News and Sun. THE OLD RELIABLE ROYAL BAKING POWDER Absolutely Pure MADE FROM CREAM OF TARTAR If Macon gets the capital she is going to have to turn loose some of her hard-earned cash. Anew building will cost several million dollars at least.—Jackson Pro gress. But what it takes to build a capital, Macon’s got it. —Griffin News and Sun.
