NEWS = OF INTEREST IN THE SOCIAL REALM U. D. C. Booth at Fair The Larkin D. Watson chapter, U. D. C., wish to announce to the public that they will serve sand wiches, coffee and soups at an attractive booth, in the Butts County Fair Grounds, on Tues day, Wednesday and Thursday of Fair week, and cordially invite everyone to visit them. ;D, A. R. Meeting Mrs. Lucy Dozier Douglass and Miss Lula Dozier will be hostesses to the members of the D. A. R. chapter on next Tuesday after noon at 3 o’clock at the Varner- Mclntosh Memorial at Indian Springs. All of the members are expected to be present. Regarding Exhibits Mrs. L. L. O’Kelley, chairman of the Ladies Department of the Butts County Fair, requests all those who intend to have exhib its in this department to have their exhibits in the fair grounds by 6 o’clock Monday afternoon, October 9. Mrs. O’Kelley is anx ious to have a large number of exhibits in her department and if you have anything to show get in touch with Mrs. O’Kelley. Circle Meetings Planned The Missionary Circles of the Baptist church will have meetings as follows: Mrs. L. D. Watson’s circle to meet at church: Parkland circle to meet with Mrs. J. R. Thurs ton; Mrs. W. P. Martin’s circle to meet at Mrs. Martin’s home; Mrs. C. W. Buchanan’s circle at Hotel Buchanan; circle No. 5 will meet Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 in the church. All circles will meet promptly at 3 o’clock, October 2. On ac count of the fair the general Missionary meeting will not be held until third Monday in Octo ber. hour to be 3 o’clock at the church. “The Suffragette Convention” Full of Fun The play entitled “The Suffra gette Convention” which the As sociated Charities will give at the auditorium Friday evening at 7:45 o’clock promises to be a rare treat to the fun loving public, ri valling in comedy The Old Maids Convention” which has been so successfully staged. There isn’t a dull moment from the time the curtain rises until its fall, the humorous characters including big, little, old and young. Philatheas Give A1 Fresco Social The members of the Philathea class entertained a number of friends at a delightful al fresco party at the Baptist church, Thursday afternoon. The object of the affair was to arouse and stimulate interest in the class work and before the social hour, ices and cakes were enjoyed, all joined in an enthusiastic discus sion of plans for the winter. Mrs. W. P. Martin was elected president of the class, Mrs. L. L. O’Kelley teacher, Mrs. L. P. Mc- Kibben vice president, Mrs. Mau rice Wright secretary, Miss Lau ra Daughtry assistant secretary, and Mrs. Boring treasurer. PHONE 134 Fancy Groceries Mothers Club Entertains at Campfire Supper The Young Mothers Club com-1 plimented the husbands and chil dren of the club with a delight ful and unique outing, Tuesday evening, the affair being a most enjoyable one. The happy scene was laid at Rose Park at 6:30, a large camp fire being surrounded by the jol ly crowd of picnicers. Bacon, eggs, coffee and many tempting dishes, which make such a sup per ideal, were cooked and serv ed by the experienced mothers, sandwiches, breads and cakes from the well filled baskets com pleting the interesting feast which was an unusual treat to all partici rants. In the large living room where the games were played an attrac tive arrangement of pink and white cosmas in tall baskets and vases were used with charming effect and in the reception hall pink roses and ferns were seen, the pretty color idea of pink and white predominating in every de tail. Hand-painted score cards, heart shaped with tiny kewpies, continued the pink and white color motif and a suggestion of the attractive colors was car ried out in the delightful luncheon served at the small tables. The guest’s prize was a pair of silk hose. Mrs. Crawford was assisted in entertaining by Mrs. Park New ton, Miss Nettie Rae Pittman and Miss Mary Newton.
