NEWS OF INTEREST IN THE Mrs. Mallet Hostess in Honor of Miss Harris The bridge party at which Mrs- George Mallet will entertain on Friday afternoon, will be one of the many beautiful pre-nuptial affairs in honor of Miss Nina Harris, Mrs. Mallet will be as sisted in entertaining her guests by Mrs. Harold Mallet and Miss Pauline Mallet. Civic League Request The Jackson Civic League re quests that all the merchants and residents, in general that they have their places of business and premises in first class condition during Fair week. Aside from the sanitary point, this will make a good impression on the many visitors present during the three days of the fair. The Civic Leag ue hopes that this very reason able request will be carried out. Barbecue at Fair Grounds i ■ * The D. A. R. will give a bar becue dinner at the fair grounds next Tuesday, Oct. 10th. the pro ceeds to go to the repairs on the Varner-Mclntosh Memorial. Mr. A. C. Finley will prepare the meats and it goes without saying that they will be appetizing and delicious. Brunswick stew, bar becue, bread and pickles will be sold for 50 cents. Orders for trays will be taken and delivered at the noon hour. A liberal pa tronage is solicited. Shower in Honor Miss Harris Mrs. Park Newton entertained in honor of Miss Nina Harris the members of the Harris-Fletcher wedding party with a pretty handkerchief shower at her home on Third street, Wednesday morning. The living room and dining room of the attractive home were beautiful with quantities of pink and white cosmas and pink roses, graceful ferns and growing plants adding to (he charming effect. Rook was played at small tables, pretty little parasols hand-paint ed in pink being used for score cards and the honor guest pre sented with a hand-painted pic ture. As the games were finish ed Mrs. Newton showered the bride-elect with the collection of lovely handkerchiefs arranged in an attractive little pink parasol tied with pink ribbons. A delicious luncheon, a salad and ice course was served, Mrs. Newton being assisted by Miss Rosa Newton and Mrs. Pitts Mc- Kibben. Those invited were Miss Harris, Mrs. Lamar Ether idge, Mrs. Asa Buttrill, Mrs. Morrison Settle, Mrs. George Mal let, Mrs. Lawrence Crawford, Mrs. Maurice Wright. Meeting Postponed The meeting of the Larkin D. Watson chapter, U. D., C. which has been announced for Thursday of next week, is postponed until Thursday afternoon, October 19, on account of the Butts County Fair. Mrs. S. B. Kinard. Mrs. Verna Wright, Mrs. R. W. Mays, Mrs. Geopge Kimbell and Miss Nettie Rae Pittman will be hos tesses at the home of Mrs. Ki nard and the hour for meeting will be 3 o’clock. In Honor of Miss Harris Theafternoon bridge party with which Miss Marv Newton compli mented Miss Nina Harris whose marriage to Judge H. M. Fletch er will be an interesting event of Wednesday evening! was one of the many lovely affairs at which Miss Harris has been the charm ing honor guest. The hall, living room and draw ing room were effectively decora ted with cosmas and growing plants, pink and white being the pretty colors used. Dainty little wedding chiffers hand-painted with orange blossoms and pink ribbons and tied with tulle were the attractive score cards and first prize was crepe de chine handkerchiefs while a prettv piece of lingerie was presented the guest of honor. After the games a delight ful salad course was served with iced tea at the small tables. H. Carmichael on Third street. The spacious home was thrown open and beautifully decorated for the occasion, a large number of guests enjoying the interesting program arranged for the after noon. The musical selections by Mrs. Lamar Etheridge, Mrs. Frank Smith Carmichael and Miss Helen Carmichael and the read ing given by Mrs. H. J. Miller were unusual treats to those present. Delightful sandwich es were served and a free will offering given for the benefit of the First Baptist church fund. D. A. R. Meeting An enthusiastic meeting of the William Mclntosh chapter. Daughters of the American Rev olution. was held on Tuesday af - ternoon with Miss Joe Varner, Mrs. Lucy Douglass and Miss Lu la Dozier as hostesses at the Var ner-Mclntosh Memorial at Indian Springs. The assembly room, where the guests were seated for the business session, was prettily decorated in flags and tne nation al colors. Reports were made by several committees. The violet was adopted as the chapter flow er and violet and pink as the chapter colors. Many contributions have been received for the Varner-Mclntosh Memorial and friends of the chap ter members are rallying to the cause. Through Miss Dozier and Mrs. Douglass, Foote & Davies Cos., of Atlanta, presented the chapter with a handsome ledger, with space for 5.000 names. Tea and sandwiches and mints were daintily served, a number of friends coming in for the so cial hour.
