NEWS OF INTEREST IN THE SOCIAL REALM Rook Club in Honor of Miss Hearn Mrs. Lamar Etheridge will be the charming hostess to the mem bers of her rook club in honor of her guest, Miss Janie Hearn, of Forsyth, on Friday afternoon. Philatheas Entertained The members of the Philathea class of the Baptist church met at the home of Mrs. Pitts McKib ben Wednesday afternoon for the purpose of organizing in class work for the winter. After the interesting and enthusiastic bus iness meeting, a delightful social half hour was enjoyed. Cradle Roll Day Exercises Primary and Cradle Roll Day will be observed in the Jackson Baptist Sunday School Sunday, Oct. 29. An interesting program will be rendered by the children, showing the work done in this department, and a lull attendance <of parents is requested that they may see how the work is carried on and to enlist their co-opera tion. After the exercises a pic ture will be made of the children. Musicale at Auditorium The public is cordially invited to attend the musicale to be giv cy under the auspices of the Young Mothers Club, at the au ditorium Friday evening at eight o’clock. Miss Genevieve Voores, violinist, Mrs. Percy Cox, pianist, • and Mrs. Lamar Etheridge, so loist, promise a most delightful •evening and the Mothers Club urge that a large and apprecia tive audience greet them. Only ten and fifteen cents admission will be charged and the proceeds will go for the proposed kinder garten work which the club is undertaking. Larkin D. Watson Chapter U. D. C. Entertained The Larkin D. Watson chapter U. D. C. was delightfully enter tained at the home of Mrs. S. B. Kinard on Thursday afternoon of the past week. Mrs. Kinard, Mrs. R. W. Mays, Mrs. Verna Wright, -4M.rs. George Kimbell and Miss Nettie Rae Pittman being hos tesses of the occasion. The draw ing room and dining room of the * spacious home were beautiful with decorations of ferns and cut flowers, vases of pink roses adorning mantels and cabinets, while a large basket of the roses and ferns formed the centerpiece for the pretty table. In the absence of the president, first vice president, Mrs. L. L. jO’Kelley, presided at the busi ness meeting after which an in teresting program was enjoyed. Miss Bessie Waldrop spent Sun day at Fiovilla. Mr. 0. A. Pound is in the city for a short stay. Mrs. T. H. Buttrill went up to Atlanta Saturday. Mrs. Janie Haskins spent the week-end in Atlanta. Mr. S. P. Nichols attended the fair in Eastman last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Patrick motored to Atlanta Saturday. Mrs. Wilson Smith was the guest of Mrs. J. B. Guthrie this week. Mrs. Ras Stroud was the guest of Mrs. George Gilmore the past week. Miss Kathleen Joyner was among the Jackson visitors at the Southeastern fair. Slaughter is visiting Mrs. I. J. Slaughter. Miss Clara Nolen was down from Atlanta to spend the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Nolen. Mrs. Walter Wight and Mrs. W. T. Crawford, of Cairo, are expected Friday for a visit to Miss Mary Newton. Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Nichols and children, Mrs. W. H. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Jones attend ed the fair in Griffin this week. The many friends of little J. 0. Beauchamp will be pleased to learn that he is rapidly recover ing from his recent severe illness. Miss Viola Slaughter will rep resent the music lovers of Jack son at the recital given in Atlan ta by the piano virtuoso, Louis Orustein. Mrs. Percy Cox, of Atlanta, who will be heard in the recital at the auditorium on Friday eve ning, as pianist, is one of Pro fessor Mayer’s most gifted pupils and is an artist of rare ability. Her unusual natural talent has been splendidly trained and aside from this she possesses a pleas ing personality, which adds greatly to her suscess on the con cert stage. Mrs. L. I).
