SLL CHILDREN LOVE
“SYRU D OF FIGS” FOR
LIVER AND BOWELS
Give it when feverish,
cross, bilious, for bad
breath or sour stomach
Look at the tongue, Mother! If
coated, it is a sure sign that your
little one’s liver and bowels need a
gentle, thorough cleansing at once.
When peevish, cross, listless,
pale, doesn’t sleep, or doesn’teat or
act naturally, or is feverish, stomach
sour, breath bad; has stomach-ache,
sore throat, diarrhoea, full of cold,
give a teaspoonful of“ California Sy
rup of Figs,” and in a few hours all
the foul constipated waste, undiges
ted food and sour bile gently moves
out of its little bowels without grip
ing, and you have a well, playful
child again.
You needn’t coax sick children to
take this harmless ‘‘fruit laxative;”
they love itsdelicious tase, and it al
ways makes them feel splendid.
Ask your druggist for a 50-cent
bottle of “California Syrup of Figs”
w hich h as directions for babies, child ren
of all ages and for grown ups
plainly on thebottle. Beware of
counterfeits sold here. To be sure
you get the genuine ask to see “Cal
ifornia Fig Syrup Company.” Re

OUR AUTHORS IN RUSSIA
|
Product of Ben Franklin’s Pen Wat
the First Book to Be
Translated.
Ben Franklin’s audience was the
world, so it does not surprise one to
learn from a Russian critic that the
first American book translated Into
Russian was the product of Poor Rich
ard’s pen. That was thirteen years
after lie died, Girard writes in the
Philadelphia Ledger.
Russia knows only lliree American
poets- Poe, Whitman and Longfellow.
In Moscow and Petrograd the three
most popular American poems are:
“The Raven,” “Leaves of Grass” and
“Hiawatha.”
The single American book most
widely read In Russia is “Uncle Tom’s
Cabin.” Some of Irving’s works were
translated for the Muscovite public
and the Russian boys have been
thrilled by the doings of Leatherstock
ing and Uncus.
Mark Twain is quite popular be
yond the Niemen and the Bereslna.
All In all, It seems that Russians know
more American books than Americans
know Russian books.
