LESTER HELD THURSDAY
•i t ,V, V*-. :■ K* *. /■
The funeral of Mr. L. Pierce Les
ter, whose death occurred in Macon
at an early hour Wednesday morn
ing, was held in Jackson Thursday
aftemobn at 3:15 o’clock, the body
being taken direct to the cemetery
from the train.
Mr. Lester’s death caused gen
eral regret and came as a shock to
his large number of Butts county
friends. He formerly resided in this
city and was connected with Car
michael-Mallet Company a few years
ago. Recently he had been residing
in Macon and was a prominent trav
eling salesman for a shoe company.
Mr. Lester was very popular with
the people of Jackson. He was a
most affable gentleman, made friends
easily and was popular personally.
Mr. Lester, who was a native of
Jones county, was 38 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, who was
Miss Annie Carmichael, of Jackson,
before her marriage, and three chil
dren, the youngest of whom is only
a few months old.
The family have the sympahy of
many warm friends ir. their deep
sorrow.

DR. MAYS ADVISES LARGE
WHEAT AND OAT CROP
In view of high prices of food
stuffs and the further advance, the
following interview by Dr. R. W.
Mays, one of the largest and most
successful farmers in the county,
will be of interest to the people:
“The farmers should sow more
wheat and oats than they have ever
sown, and set apart land for corn
neXt year. Keep one cow at least for
the family, and hogs enough to eat
the waste. If this is not done there
will be suffering in this country.
“The foreign countries are at war
destroying life and property, and
borrowing money from us to buy
all available wheat and corn.”
The news was slow in coming in,
but it was so darn Democratic when
it did trickle through.
