FOOD MEETING HELD IN MACON Governor Hugh Dorsey Presiding Officer THOUSANDS ATTEND MEET The state-wide food meeting held in Macon Wednesday wr.s attended by prominent business men and far mers from every county in Georgia. The meeting was opened at the city auditorium at 9 o’clock by Governor Hugh M, Dorsey, The principal address was delivered by F. C. Wolcott, personal represen tative of Herbert Hoover, national food administrator, The speaker re lated food conditions ip Belgium, Po land, Serbia and other war-t<-^ en country and stressed the absolute necessity of larger food crops in the United States. Others who made ad dresses included Governor Dorsey, Dr. A. M. Soule, state food adminis tor, J. J. Brown, commissioner of agriculture, and others. Short and practical talks were then made by a number of farmers and well known business and professional men. It was estimated that at least three thousand persons were present at the meeting. Many politicians took advantag of the gathering to mingle wih he vo ers and get a line-up on the political situation existing in Georgia. I Among those from Butts county —t’o attended the. meetfno. Butts county led all (Georgia in Cor# Club, Canning Club and Pig Club work last year. That is a record to be proud of. Let’s see if we can’t have more members this year and an increased production of food crops and livestock. Pace from one registered Berkshire sow dpripg the past i|'hat ig the best record yet , reported, and shows what can be done | with pure bred bop. In February eight pigs were far rowed, arid five of these were sold ah $5 each foi* it total of ss(l, rind three turned out 450 pounds of meat, which at 20 cents pound amounted to S9O. In September eight pigs were farrow ed and five of these were sold for $65, and Mr. FaCO now has three on hand which are worth $46, Mr. Pace has made a specialty of raising Berkshire hogs and Jersey cows and he is convinced these are two of the best all round breeds one can have. He is now advertising hogs and cows for sale. He has made a suc cess of the livestock business and his example is worthy.of emulation. Dealers. 30 BARRELS OF FLOUR SAVED WEEKLY AT STATE SANITARIUM The trustees of the state sanitarium at Milledgeville report that since the in..litution has been observing wheat less days there has been a weekly saving of 30 barrels of flour.
