1 TROOP TRAINS
v Quincy Germaine of The Vigil
antes)
sound like the gathering thunder
A roar in the silent dark,
bash, a rattle and silence.
Then out in the distance —Hark!
it a whistle, or portent
phat called us from sleep when it
blew?
e quiet, my heart, and listen
To a trop-train going through!
'his is no royal deception,
This is no empty boast.
,aden and ready for action
They’re pounding from coast to
coast.
’he lines are clear for their passage,
We’re routing them over to you,
’en-millions ready, 0 Kaiser!
Our troop-trains all go through.
\.n eager young face at each win low
Watching the land slide by,—
The land of their birth and loving,
But merry, ardent and true!
3od grant them a safe returning,
But first speed the troop-trains
through!
Strong and stern those faces,
The faith for which they’ll die.
CHRIST LOVED HOME
Though too poor to have a home of
IHis own, He went out to spend the
[night at Bethany, two or three miles
[walk from Jerusalem, and over a
[rough and hilly road that made it
[equal to six or seven ordinary miles,
[every morning and night going to and
Ifro. He loved the quietude of home
life, and He was lovely in His domes-
Iticity.
How He enjoyed handing over the
■resurrected boy to his mother and the
■ resurrected girl to her father and re
| constructing homesteads which dis
| case or death was breaking up! As
| the song, “Home, Sweet Home,” was
| written by a man who at that time
[had no home so we think the homeless
[ness of Christ added to his apprecia
tion of domesticity.—Exchange.
Give the young and struggling a
Iword of encouragement when you
lean. You would not leave those plants
■in your window boxes without water
■nor refuse to open the shutters that
■the sunlight might fall upon them;
■but you would leave some human
Mower to suffer from want of appre
ciation or the sunlight of encourage
■ment. There are a few hardy souls
■that can struggle along on stony soil
I—shrubs that can wait for the dews
■ind sunbeams, vines that climb with
out kindly training; but only a few
Inter the kind word when you can see
fthat it is deserved. The thought that
Rio one cares and no one knows,
fplights many a bud of promise. Be it
the young artist at his easel, the
young preacher in his pulpit, the
workman at his bench, the boy at his
fcfiiathematical problems, or your little
■girl at the piano, give what praise you
■can.—Exchange.

MAMMA! DON'T YOU
SEE YOUR CHILD IS
SICK, CONSTIPATED
Look at Tongue! Move Poi
sons From Liver and Bow
els at Once
Mother! You child isn’t naturally
cross and peevish. See if tongue is
coated;; this is a sure sign its little
sftomach, liver and bowels need clean
sing at once.
When listless, pale, feverish, full
of cold, breath bad, throat sore,
doesn’t eat, sleep or act naturally,
has stomachache, diarrhoea, remem
ber, a gentle liver and bowel clean
sing should always be the first treat
ment given.
Nothing equals “California Syrup
of Figs” for children’s ills; give a
teaspoonful, and in a few hours all
the foul waste, sour bile and ferment
ing food which is clogged in the bow
els passes out of the system, and you
have a well and playful child again.
All children love his harmless, delic
ious “fruit laxative,” and it never
fails to effect a good “inside” cleans
ing. Directions for babies, children of
all ages and grown-ups are plainly on
the bottle.
Keep it handy in your home. A
little given today saves a sick child
tomorrow, but get he genuine. Ask
ask your druggist for a bottle
“California Syrup of Figs,” then look
and see that it is made by the “Cali
fornia Fig Syrup Cos.” advt.
