Suffer Terribly With Corns
Because of High Heels, but
Why Care Now
Women wear high heels which
buckle up their toes and they suffer
terribly from corns. Women then pro
ceed to trim these pests, seeking re
lief, but they hardly realize the ter
rible danger from infection, say a
Cincinnati authority.
Corns can easily be lifted out with
the fingers if you will get from any
drug store a quarter of an ounce of
a drug called freezone. This is suffi
cient to remove every hard or soft
com or callus from one’s feet. You
simply apply a few drops directly
upon the tender aching com or cal
lus. The soreness is relieved at once
and soon the entire com or callus,
root and all, lifts out without one
particle of pain.
This freezone is a stick substance
which dries in a moment. It just
shrivels up the com without inflam
ing or even irritating the surround
ing tissue or skin. Tell your wife

OPPOSES BUILDING OCMULGEE
BRIDGE AT PRESENT TIME
Editor Progress-Argus:
We notice that the general present
ments of our recent grand jury con
tained a recommendation for the
building of a free b ridge across the
Ocmulgee river.
In view of all existing conditions
we don’t see how such a conservative
body as our last grand jury could
recommend such a thing at this time.
We do not question but what a bridge
would be a good thing for the people
of Butts and Jasper counties as sug
gested, but can it be possible that
such representative citizens as com
posed our last grand jury have not
yet awakened to the fact that our
government (which means all of us)
is engaged in the most terrible war
of all times? Can it be possible that
they, like so many others, do not fully
realize that the world is on fire and
that the flames are burning rapidly
toward our own house. If they did
not realize it court week, certainly
the happenings of the last few days
on the battlefields of Europe ought to
begin to open their eyes to the fact
that this is no time to be branching
out into new enterprises involving
the expenditure of big sums of mon
ey, but it is a time when every ener
gy and resource should be conserved
for the all important task before us, 1
that of first winning the war. Of!
course we do not question the zeal
or loyalty of the grand jury, but as
a general thing when a fire breaks
out in a town or community all hands
usually try to put out the fire before j
undertaking anything else.
And aside from the fact of the war
upon us there are many other reasons ■

Teach Children to
Beware of Flies
Explain to them how flies are hatched
in filth. How, after crawling around
in outhouses, privies, manure piles
and over dead animals and decayed
matter, they come into the home
and wipe their nasty feet on the
family food, leaving a trail of dis
ease germs everywhere.

RED DEVIL LYE
KILLS FLIES
why it seems unwise for our county
to undertake any such big enterprise
at this time. The bridge at Juliette
cost about $30,000 we have been
told, and that was built before the
enormous advance in steel and other
building material. Under the prevail
ing prices of materials, labor, etc., it
would cost $75,000 to bridge the Oc
mulgee, and Butts’ proportion of the
cost would be fifty or sixty thousand
dollars or about the year’s taxes.
Another reason, our county owes
an unknown (and it seems an un
knowable) amount of money, but a
considerable sum, no doubt, and we
still have a number of wooden bridges
that will have to be kept up or be re
placed with steel.
With the war upon us, with our
county heavily in debt and the boll
weevil sitting off watching us, if there
ever was a time when we ought to
keep close to the shore in both per
sonal and publjc expenditure* of
money, certainly this is the time.
This war is not only a contest involv
ing the physical strength of the na
tions involved but is more of a con
test of the financial strength of the
nations engaged.
As Lord George has truly said, it
may be that the fellow who happens
to have the last thousand dollars may
win the war.
