COFFERS —SOUT HSHOWS UP
STRONG IN DRIVE
Washington, June 2.—The Ameri
can Red Cross second war mercy fund'
totals $166,439,291 with indications
that when all reports from the drive
of a week ago are tabulated a $70,-
000,000 oversubscription of the
$100,000,000 goal will be shown.
In announcing the figures tonight,
Henry P. Davison, chairman of the
Red Cross war council, said the re
turns show that more than 47,000,000
Americans —nearly half the popula
tion of the‘whole country—contribu
ted. Those giving to the first fund
last year numbered only about 5,000,-
000.
Not only did every Red Cross divis
ion in the country oversusbcribe, but
one, the Gulf, turned in more than,
three times the amount of its quota.,
vJiile five others, the southern, Atlan
tic, mountain, northwestern and
southwestern more than doubled
their allotments. Every state attained
its goal, five more than tripled it and
sixteen others and the District of Co
lumbia more than doubled theirs.
“The supreme feature of the
achievement,” said Mr. Davison’s
statement, “is to be found not in the
amount subscribed, but in that it
came from every part of the United
States, from its cities, its towns, its
farms, its factories, fro mthe rich and
the poor, regardless of sect, color or:
creed.
“No American wants thanks be
cause his country has so richly fulfill
ed her obligations, but I do congratu
late every American who has contrib
uted either time or money towards
this, the greatest work of mercy, pity
and love in the history of mankind.”
There is more Catarrh in this section*
of the country than all other diseases
put together, and for years it was sup

pronounced it incurable. Catarrh is a
