A PROCLAMATION
Submitting a proposed amendment
%o the Constitution of Georgia, to be
voted on at the general election to be
{held on Tuesday, November sth, 1918,
said amendment to amend Par. 1,
gee. 1, Art. 7, of the Constitution of
-Georgia, so as to allow extension of
pension payments.

Whereas, the General Assembly at
its session in 1918, proposed an
amendment to the Constitution of
this State as set forth in an Act ap
proved August 20, 1918, to-wit:

An Act to amend Paragraph 1, Sec
tion 1, Article 7, of the Constitu

Section 1. Be it enacted by the
General Assembly of the State of
Georgia, and it is hereby enacted by
the authority of the same, that Para
h 1, Secton 1, Article 7, of the
titution of the State of Georgia
and is hereby amended by strik

this Constitutional amendment, so
that said sections as amended by this
Act will read as follows: “The pow
ers of taxation over the whole State
shall be exercised by the General As
sembly for the following purposes, to
make provisions for the payment of

now residing in this State who

Confederate States during the Civil
War between the States of the United
States, and who performed actual
military services in the armies of the
Confederate or of the organized mi
litia of this State, and was honorably
discharged therefrom, and to the wid
ows now resident of this State of ex-
Confederate soldiers who enlisted in
the military service of the Confeder
ate States, and who performed actual
service in the armies of the Confeder
ate States or of the organized militia
of this State, who died in said mili
tary service or was honorably dis
charged therefrom, who were married
prior to January Ist, 1881, no widow
of a soldier killed during the war
shall be deprived of her pension by
reason of having subsequently mar
ked another veteran who is dead, un
s she is receiving a pension on ac
jnt of being the widow of such
rst husband.
Sec. 2. Be it enacted by the au-
nority aforesaid, That if this Consti
ational amendment shall be agreed
to by a two-thirds vote of the mem
bers of the General Assembly of each
House, the same shall be entered on
each Journal, with the ayes and nays
taken thereon, and the Governor
shall cause the amendment to be pub
lished in one or more of the newspa
pers in each Congressional District

or printed on their tickets, “For rati
fication of the amendment, Paragraph
1, Section 1, Article 7, of the Consti

By virtue of an order from the
Court of Ordinary of Butts county
will be sold at public outcry, on the
first Tuesday in October, 1918, at the
court house door in said county, be
tween the legal hours of sale, that
tract of land in said county, describ
ed as follows: Twenty-five acres,
more or less, bounded as follows:
North by lands of W. S. Cook, east by
lands of colored church at stark and
lands of R. M. Harper estate and W.
M. Lummus, south by public road
leading from Jackson to Pittman’s
Ferry by Stark, and on the west by
public road leading from Stark to
Worthville, being the lands known a s
the J. M. jMcClure home place. Said
lands sold for the purpose of distribu
tion among the heirs of the estate of
J. M. McClure, deceased.

Under and by virtue of the power
and authority contained in the will
of Jas. F. Carmichael, deceased, as
administrator de bonis non with will
annexed, will sell at public outcry
to the highest bidder for cash, before
the court house door of said county,
on the first Tuesday in October next,
the following property, to-wit:
Th ree residence lots lying and be
ing in the City of Jackson, said state
and county, and each of said lots
fronting on West Third Street the
distance of 78 feet, more or less, and
having a depth of 278 feet, more or
less. The tract of land sub-divided
into three lots, is bounded on the
south by West Third street, on the
west by property of Mrs. M. C. Thax
ton, on the north by property of C.
L. Redman and I. V. Smith, and on
the. east by the home place of Jas. F.
Carmichael.
Also at the same time and place
the home place of Jas. F. Carmichael,
deceased, containing a good six-room
house, and lot fronting on West Third
street 80 feet, more or less, and run
ning back inuniform width 278 feet,
more or less, and bounded as follows:
On the south by West Third street,
on the west by vacant lot belonging
to the estate of Jas. F. Carmichael,
on the north by property of C. L.
Redman and on the east by property
belonging to the First National Bank
of Jackson.
There is no more desirable proper
ty in the city of Jackson. This prop
erty will be sold free from liens, and
for payment of the debts of the es
tate, and titles without encumbrance
will be made to the purchasers. The
courts have adjudicated the property
to be the property of Jas. F. Carmi
chael and therefore titles perfect. "

FORMER INDIAN SPRINGS
CITIZEN DEAD IN FLORIDA
The death of Mr. Thomas Haley,
aged 50, occurred Tuesday at Cold
water, Fla. The body was brought to
Jackson Wednesday afternoon and
the funeral vuas held at Indian Springs
Thursday morning at 11 o’clock, Rev.
W. H. Arnold officiating. Interment
was in the Indian Springs cemetery.
Mr. Haley was a former resident of
Indian Springs and the family is well
known here. He is survived by his
mother and father and other relatives.
