HER PRAYER
father, grant this prayer to me;
A suppliant now I come to Thee.
There is one, near to my heart—
Dearer still since far apart—
For him I would Thine aid implore,
For him whom I may see no more.
This one boon I’d ask of Thee:
Let his life come back to me;
Let him be as pure, as fine
As when his life was near to mine.
But, Father, if this may not be,
Should he not return to me:
Grant then, O Father, dear,
Thou’lt still be near, Thy loving care
Protecting, guarding everywhere.
Grant him surcease after strife,
Give to him the best of life.
When he has finished his great task—
His happiness is all I ask.

ed and urged to come and bring a do
nation.
This is a call that should appeal to
the heart of every person in the coun
ty as the hospitals at the front are in
of tV*** r*9.llcd
They are necessary for the comfort
of our wounded soldiers who are giv
ing their lives for us and why cant
we deny ourselves a few luxuries and
contribute to the cause. With so
many of our own, dear Butts county
men at the front, we will be adminis
tering to their needs and comforts.
It may be one of our very own.
The call has been sent forth from
Red Cross headquarters in Washing
ton and an allotment given to each
chapter with .the suggestions for the
shower which will be given. Below
will be printed the Butts county allot
ment, with the dimensions of each
article, and it is asked that each per
son contributing will, if possible, have
the gift laundered and place the card
of the giver on it.
Strong, in preference to a fine tex
ture of material is urged for each ar
ticle, in fact unbleached sheets are
specified. Any of the below named
articles will be most acceptable and
’tis needless to add, any number of
them. Let each of us contribute our
presence and gifts for the success of
the occasion, doing our little “bit” in
this great work. The Butts county
allotment includes 57 sheets 64x102
inches; 122 bath towels 19x38 inches;
245 hand towels 18x30 inches; 171
handkerchiefs 18x18 inches.
The sheets require a two inch hem
at the top and a one inch hem at the
bottom.

RED CROSS NOTES
The rooms continue closed on ac
count of the inability to secure ma
terial for the new allotment, but it is
expected daily and notice will be giv
en as soon as it arrives. At any event
on Wednesday afternoon of next
week at 4:30 o’clock, the rooms will
be wide open for the large linen show
er to be given for the Red Cross Hos
pitals. This shower was suggested by
headquarters at Washington in view
of the heavy allotments being given
for the regular work of the Red Cross.
The general fund will be most inade
quate to cover the expense of all, so
it is hoped that the entire linen al
lotment vaill be received at the show
er.
For the benefit of the public who
contribute monthly to the Red Cross
and to give them an idea of the cost
of the material used in the making of
surgical dressings, it is stated that
the material for the allotment of 480
scultetus bandages, to be made within
the corning thirty jdayH w*ill cost]
$150.00, and the cost of the 300 com
fort bags recently published was
equally as much. Such calls drain the
funds, hence the extra call for linens.
Again it i3 urged that all who do not
contribute ■'monthly may feel it a
duty to do zo, an imperative duty to
the boys at the front.
