Mrs. W. E. Watkins was hostess
at two tables of bridge on Thursday
afternoon in compliment to Mrs.
Charles S. Robison, of Atlanta, and
•Mrs. W. T. Street, of Dothan, Ala.,
the guests of Miss Mary Newton.
After the games a sweet course and
chocolate was served.
Miss Mollie Watkins graciously
assisted her mother in serving the
guests.
VICTORY MEETING
After hree years of blessings anil
triumphs of national prohibition
there should be a gratitude in each

Coming as a surprise to their
friends- was the marriage of Miss
Annie Mae Smith and Mr. Hugh F.
McNair, which took place on the
night of January 5, Judge J. H.
Ham performing the ceremony at
this residence.
Following a short vuedding trip in
Macon Mr. and Mrs. McNair are at
home to their friends with Mr.
and Mrs. J. E. McNair, parents ox
the groom.
The bride is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W. A. Smith and is-an at
tractive young' lady whose many
admirable traits of character have
endeared her to a wide circle of
friends. Mr. McNair is a valued
employee of the Jackson post office.
Scores of friends extend congrat
ulations and good wishes to the
young couple.

has recovered from his recent ill

delightfully at a six o’clock dinner
Saturday afternoon in honor of her
guests, Miss Annie Peeples., of Jenk
insburg, and Mrs. Jaee Maddox, of
St. Petersburg.

handsome decorative plants and the
soft radiance of the candles made
a pretty scene.
Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Johnson’s
friends vdll regret to know that
their son, George Johnson, is still
in a sanitarium in Atlanta, where
he was carried Tuesday at noon.
During the holidays, he suffered
the loss of two of his toes, from
the accidental firing,of a gun. The
wound has given him considerable
trouble, being threatened with
tetanus.

The death of Mrs. Perry Allen
occurred Tuesday morning at her
home here. The family has the

BISHOP AND PRESIDING ELDER
METHODIST CHURCH SUNDAY
Bishop James E. Dickey, of Waco,
Texas, formerly of the North Geor
gia Conference, president of Emory
College for thirteen years, formerly
pastor of Grace church and First
church, Atlanta, and recently . pas
tor at Griffin, will preach at the
Methodist church next Sunday
morning. A large congregation is
expected to hear the bishop. Bishop
Dickey is one of the newly elected
bishops of the church having been
elevated to the high office at the
general conference last May. Bish-
cp and Mrs. Dickey during their

their daughter, Mrs. H. H. Jones,
at the Methodist parsonage.
Dr. Luke G. Johnson, the presid
ing elder will preach at the even

The Sunday school service Sun
day morning was an inspiration to
every one present to do his
or her best for 1923. The true
spirit of worship, the hearty co-ope
ration of officers, teachers and pu
pils and the earnestness with which
the new year’s work has begun were
refreshing. An increase of 50 in
attendance over the previous Sun
day was recorded. If you were ab
sent last Sunday be one of fifty to
help us repeat our attendance gain
on Sunday, the 14.

preach at 11a. m. and 7 p. m. Dr.
Key has many friends in the city
who welcorpe him again to our com
munity.
The Woman’s Missionary Society

eign Missions. Circle No. 1, Mr?. L.
D. Watson, chairman, will have
charge of the devotional sjervice,

chairman, will lead the devotional.
Tuesday afternoon. The program
will be in charge of Mrs. Luther
Carter, who will talk on the work
being done in China and Japan.

Wednesday afternoon, and Mrs.
Fowler, a missionary from Argen
tina, will talk on South America.
The Society is indeed fortunate to
have Mrs. Fowler during these days
to give one of her inspiring talks
and feels very grateful for the priv
ilege. This is a mo t interesting
program and it is earnestly hoped
that the attendance will be large
and all get great benefit from these
instructive meetings.
The Prayer Meeting topics for
the month are in the interest of
A Revival in Our Church. Let’s
give ourselves loyally to this im
portant service of the vwek. There
is a place and a work for every
one. Come! Deacon S. O. Ham will
lead the service Wednesday night.
