YOUR TOWN
If you want to live in. the kind of
a town
That’s the kind of a town you’d like
You needn’t s’.ip your clothes in a
grip
And start on a long, long hike.
You’ll find elsewhere what you left
behind,
Fot there’s nothing that’s really new.
It’s a knock at yourself when you
knock your tovai,
It isn’t your town, it’s you.
Eeal towns are not made by men
afraid
Less somebody else gets ahead,
Where everyone works and nobod.v
shirks
You can raise a town from the dead.
And if while you make your person
al stake
Y our neighbor can make one, too.
Your town will be what you want it
to be;
It isn’t your town, it’s you!

AMERICA’S NEED
“What America needs more than
railway extension, and western irri
gation, and a low tariff, and a big
ger wheat crop, and a merchant ma
rine, and anew navy, is a revival of
piety, the kind father and mother
used to have; piety that counted it
good business to stop for daily
family prayer before breakfast,
right in the middle of the harvest;
that quit work a half hour early
Wednesday night so as to get the
chores done and go to prayer meet
ing. That’s just what we need now
to clean this country of filth, of
graft and of greed, petty and big,
of worship of fine houses and big
lands, and high office and grand so
cial functions.” —Selected.
PURPOSE
Assuming that one has character,
a fair education, health, self-con
trol, and is engaged in a suitable
occupation in which he can engage
wholeheartedly and see his future,
I should say that next in impor
tance, as a step toward succers, is
a serious purpose toward life—the
actual, sincere, heartfelt desire to
render a service to the world in
which he lives. I have little use for
the man whose ambition it is to
make the world serve him, that he
may enjoy luxury by the toil and
sacrifice of others.—Selected.

The Bible class made a good start
•for the new year, much interest be
ing shown which is manifested by
nevs members being constantly en
rolled. The class appreciates having
Mrs. L. L. O’Kelley as their teacher
and by a rising vote of thanks to
her for; assuming this obligation
assured he* of their co-operation.
Mrs. O’Kelley teaches the lesson
with an earnestness and clearness

A Thought For the Week
“As for me and my house we will
serve the Lord.” Serve him in the
home, the preaching service, the
prayer meeting service, the . Sunday
School and where ever the oppor
tunity presents itself.
Paternalism has taken a strong
hold on the people in the past few
years. The fellow who pays a few
dollars street or road tax expects
good streets and good roads. It
takes money anl a lot of it to build
good roads. Asa general rule the
people get what they pay for, no
more and no less.

What is education? That seems
to be a hard nut. But if the voile

educational then we miss our guess.
No county, in this age of diversifi
