attractive by very select music on
the victrola presided over by Miss
Virginia Carmichael.
The guests were received by the
officers of the Union, Mrs. J. H.
Carmichael, Mrs. J. E. Woods, Mrs.
Annie Webb, Mrs. Annie Curry, Mrs.
R. J. Carmichael, Mrs. Verna Wright.
Mrs. Annie Webb presided, calling
on the other vice president to repre
sent their church women in expres
sions of love and appreciation of
Mrs. Lyon’s long and faithful term
of service. Mrs. J. H. Carmichael re
sponded from the Baptist church,
Mrs. J. E. Woods from Presbyterian
church. Mrs. Lyons gave a resume of
the work, having been a most faith
ful and efficent president since or
ganization in 1906.
Some very interesting facts of
history were brought out, also some
fine constructive work done by the
Union was made mention of.
Many were the expressions of love
and appreciation by word of mouth
but none spoke louder or expressed
more than the beautiful sterling
silver sandwich tray given by the en
tire membership. “W. C. T. U. 1906
1926,” was the splendid engraving
done by Mr. Joseph Edwards.
Another expression and apprecia
tion came as a surprise to her, that
of a very handsome little pin given by
Hon. J. L. Lyons—Just the thing she
so much wished for the badge of
the Union a beautiful gold double
bow-knot set with pearls.
Mrs. Lyons responded in beautiful
words of appreciation but did not
fully survive the shock until served
with delicious ice cream and cake
in which all alike shared.
Four new names were added to
the roll and all were fully persuad
ed that the “Woman’s Christian
Temperance Union” was high up but
not dry.
