MR. IHOS. R. NUTT IS
SUMMONED BY DEATH
Friends and relatives here were
grieved to learn of the death of
Mr. T. R. Nutt, 7fi years of age.
which occurred at his home in
Spalding county early Monday morn
ing. He had been in feeble health
for the past several months, follow
ing a stroke of paralysis, and Thurs
day ~ast week he sustained
a broke,. ip in a fall.
Mr. Nutt was one of the prominent
men of this section of the state.
He served Spalding county as tax
collector for a period ofthirty years,
having first been elected in 1890.
Such was the confidence of the peo
ple in his integrity and business
ability that he was re-elected to that
office term after term. He was con
nected with a prominent middle

Georgia family. Mr. Nutt was well
known in Butts county and had a
number of relatives here. He was
esteemed as a splendid type of
citizen.
Funeral services were held at
Union Baptist church Tuesday morn
ing at 11 o’clock. The services, large
ly attended by relatives and friends,
were conducted by Rev. Walter S.
Adams, of the First Baptist church.
The high esteem in which he was
held was attested by the lovely
floral offerings. .Many officials and
organizations sent handsome designs.
Mr. Nutt is survived by three
daughters, Mrs. J. S. Matthews, of
Cuthbert; Mrs. Annie Hawkins,
Forsyth, and Mrs. G. V. Williams,
of Locust Grove; three sons, J. C.
Nutt, Griifin ; T. A. Nutt, Jackson,
and W. P. Nutt, Griffin, and two
step-daughters, Mrs. S. C. Mitchell,
Sr., and Mrs. T. W. Futral, both of
Griffin.

The Methodist Sunday School will
have a Christmas J roe for the
Baby roll, the beginners and Prim

noon at the church, at three o’clock.
At six o’clock in the church there
will be a Christmas Tree for the
Junior Department. To these all
members of the above mentioned
Departments are urged to be present.
There will be presents and enter
tainments for all.
At seven o’clock in the church
there will be a Christmas Social for
the older members of the Sunday
School. To this the entire member
ship of the church is invited and
urge ! to come. We wish to make
this a real Christmas entertainment.
Let u- all come and hav ; a social
hour together, it will do u good.
Sunday morning at eleven o’clock
there v.ill be special Christmas music
by the choir. This means there is
a treat in store for those present.
The ga-tor will preach a Christmas
sermon at the morning hour.

INDIAN SPRINGS
Mrs .W. H. Arnold spent the |
week in Atlanta, shopping and visit- J
ing relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Cornell and
son, James, spent. Saturday in At- j
lanta, watching the parade of Santa '
Claus and other attractions of the
big city.
Miss Elizabeth Winburn Clay is
spending her vacation, from her
studies at, Washington Seminary, I
with her grandmother and other
relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Mulligan are spend
ing Christmas in Birmingham.
The Christmas tree is the all ab
sorbing thought among old and
young. A beautiful cedar tree has
seen planted on the church grounds.
The soft twinklnig- of the pretty col
ored candles among the brightly
colored gifts and vivid green will be j
a beatiful sight out in the open. i

A lettcrhas been received from I
Gov. Clifford Walker, thanking the J
Indian Springs Civic league for
planting a tree in his name and
honor.
Dr. Edgar Lassiter, of Albuquer
que, New Mexico, has just been
round shaking hands with Indian
Spring friends. Dr. Lassiter is a
Butts county hoy. He went West
several years ago, married and lo- j
cated in Albuquerque and is now a
prominent physician and fine citizen
in that prosperous Western city.
Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock,
Eastern time services will he held
at the Baptist church. Sermon by
Rev. W. S. Adanias the pastor. Miss
Caroline Gray, of Locust Grove, with
the violin, accompanied by Mrs.

THE SIMPLICITY OF CHRIST
There was no wild clamor of bells,
no great gathering of great notables,
no acclaim from vast multitude
that night two thousand years ago

herds roundabout by a Voice they
had never before heard, or never
were to hear again.
Hills, bathed in the glorious star
light of the East—that is the scene
which rises before our eyes at Christ
mas— hills, and white flocks gazing
on their slopes, and a soft, fragrant
breeze, and here and there the tinkle
of a bell. And then the mapgcr, low
