DESTRUCTION (OITON
IS NOW IN FULL SWING
NECESSARY PERMITS HAVE
BEEN RECEIVED AND COTTON
IS BEING DESTROYED. CHECKS
TO COME LATER
Destruction of cotton by Butts
county growers under the govern
ment allotment plan to take 10,-
000,000 acres out of cultivation this
season is now on in full swing., All
the necessary permits have been re
ceived and have been issued from
the county agent’s office.
Plows, mowing machines, grass
blades and other implements are
being used to destroy the cotton. In
some instances planters are said to
be saving the cotton for feed.
The committee will check the land
later to see that the cottan has been
destroyed.
It is expected that checks will be
mailed out within the near future,
but the date of this has not been
announced.
Generally speaking cotton is do
ing well and the boll weevil infesta
tion is not as heavy as seemed likely
a few weeks ago when there were
several days of rainy and cloudy
weather. First open bolls are being
reported and the “first bale” is ex
pected within a few days, probably
next week.
