PmjRCH CEREMONY J|
™ The marriage of Miss Marie Ave
ry Woojls and Mr. James Carmichael
Newton was solemnized Saturday
afternoon, December the twenty
seventh, at four o’clbck at the First
Eaptist church, the pastor, Rev.
Thomas M. Callaway, officiating. A
representative group of friends and
relatives witnessed the impressive
ring ceremony.
The simple yet artistic arrange
ment of Christmas evergreens and
cathedral candles made a most at
tractive and effective setting for
the wedding party. The tall candela
bra in which burned seven red can
dles each, were tied with fluffy
bows of red tulle. Groups of these
at intervals amid the holly and cedar
made a most impressive and beauti
ful scene.
Before the ceremony, Mrs. Em
mett Askew, of Hogansville and Mr.
0. li. Cooper, of Bartow, rendered
a program of nupital music, Mr.
Cooper singing, “At Dawning’’ and
“Because,” with Mrs. Askew at the
piano.
The first of the bridal party to
enter were the two ushers, Mr.
Hughey Woods, of Atlanta, brother
of the bride, and Mr. Ernest D.
Newton, of Lancaster, S. C., brother
of the bridegroom. They entered
by opposite aisles and stood on eith
er side of the improvised altar, which
was formed with masses of cedar
and holly as a background for the
pretty candelabra. Entering next
was the bridesmaid, Miss Elizabeth
Tuck, of Athens, who took her place
on the right of the altar. Immediate
ly preceding the bride was the maid
of honor, Miss Margaret Dallis, of
LaG range.
Bride Enter* with Her Father
The radiantly lovely bride entered
on the arm of her father, Mr. Wil
liam Clark Woods, who gave her in
marriage. They were met at the al
tar by the groom and his best man,
his brother, Mr. Aris W. Newton, of
Cartersville.. Mendelssohn’s wedding
march was used as a processional
while for the recessional the “Bridal
Chorus” from Lohengrin, by Wag
ner was played. '
The bride was lovely in her wed
ding gown, of Cortez Gold crepe
fashioned with the short waist line
and circular skirt. On the bodice
wore shown insets of real lace. Her
becoming hat was a model of beige
lace and ribbon and her shoes and
other accessories were in matching
tones. She carried a buoquet of Joan
Hill roses showered with gold lace
and ribbons. Both the maid of honor
and the bridesmaid wore becoming
afternoon costumes of green crape.
They carried Richmond roses
and valley lilies showered with red
and silver ribbons.
