Wednesday on account of the death
of their little niece, Betty Hardin,
the attractive baby daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Hardin.
The many friends of Miss Nettie
Lou Godsey will be interested to
know that she was brought home
from the Griffin Hospital Tuesday
and hope they may learn of an early
improvement in her condition. This
popular high school girl suffered se
vere injuries in an automobile acci
dent ten days ago.
"Mandalay" Promises
Thrills and Romance
In Colorful Setting
Unique romance; in a drama pack
ed with thrills, is promised in the
latest First National picture starring
Kay Francis, “Mandalay,” which is
scheduled to be shown for the first
time in Jackson at the Princess
Theatre Monday and Tuesday of next
week.
Ricardo Cortez and Lyle Talbot
are other well known screen stars
who will be featured in this produc
tion.
The picture is a tale of romance
and thrilling adventure set in the col
orful background of Burma, and con
cerns a beautiful Russian exile who
is sold into virtual slavery to a night
club resort keeper by the man who
loves her. Her flight and pursuit
forms and exciting portion of the
drama that is filled with thrills.
The offering for Wednesday and
Thursday is Will Rogers in “Mr,
Skitch.” Rogers, head of a family of
six, suddenly finds himself penniless,
and is confronted with the task of
making sufficient money to support
his family. He places his brood in
an old dilapidated car and starts
towards California with the hope that
he may secure a job in another com
munity. He finally lands a job as
waiter in a gambling casino. He gam
bles the first dollar he earns on the
rouletete wheel, and wins $3,000,
only to have his wife lose the money
in an auto camp. Penniless once
more, he starts off to Hollywood, to
capitalize on the talents of a movie
star impersonator, whose ecquain
tance he has made at one of the
auto camps. How Rogers and his
family finally manage to emerge
from financial difficulties in Holly
wood is said to bring the film to an
uproarious finale.
In support of Rogers, the cast is
headed by Zasu Pitts. Rochelle Hud
son and Charles Starret play the ro
mantic leads, and are aided by three
star funsters, Florence Desmond,
Harry Green and Eugene Pallette.

MR. MAX B. BAILEY
IS TAKEN BY DEATH
Mr. Max B. Bailey, 25 years of
age, passed away Thui-sday morning
at 2 o’clock at the home of his pa
rents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Bailey in
Jackson. Death followed an illness of
several weeks.
Mr. Bailey was born in Jackson
and spent his entire life here with
the exception of an enlistment of
four years in the United States Navy.
He was highly esteemed by friends
and associates and his death brings
sorrow to all who knew him. Mr.
Bailey was connected with prominent
Butts and Jasper county families.
Surviving Mr. Bailey are his pa
rents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Bailey;
four brothers, J. L., Jr., B. K., D. W.
and Bartlett Bailey, all of Jackson;
three sisters, Miss Pearl Bailey, Miss
Ruby Bailey and Miss Helen Bailey,
of Jackson.
Funeral services will be held from
the home Friday afternoon at 2
o’clock and interment will be in the
Jackson City Cemetery.
COURT RECESSES UNTIL
MONDAY OF NEXT WEEK
Butts Superior Court which had
been in session since Monday morn
ing, recessed Thursday morning to
Monday of next week. At that time,
criminal cases will be tried.
During the week a good many civil
cases were disposed of*
The calendar of criminal cases is
rather light, it is reported.
