POLITICAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
FOR CHAIRMAN COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS
To the Citizens of Butts County:
I am a candidate for re-election as
Chairman of thfe Board of Commis
sioners of Butts County. In making
this announcement I want to assure
you that the business policies pur
sued during my tenure in office a3
Chairman in the past will be strictly
adhered to in the future. My ambi
tion, wish and desire is to reduce the
tax levy of Btuts County to a point
lower than in any County in the
State, and that without curtailment
of any needed or necessary service--
or improvements. I believe it can
be done, that I can do it, and I
promise you that I will do my level
best to bring about this enviable sit
uation if I am re-elected.
Thanking you for your confidence
in the past, assuring you that I will
merit and appreciate your continued
confidence, I am,
Respectfully yours,
O. B. HOWELL.
FOR CHAIRMAN OF BOARD
To The White Voters of Butts Coun
ty:
Sincerely believing that a public
olfice is a public trust and that every
citizens is entitled to an equal, fair
and courteous consideration, thereby
announce my candidacy for the office
of Chairman of the Board of Com
mssioners of Roads and Revenues of
Butts County, subject to the rule--
t f the Democratic Primary to be held
on May 18th, 1934. Having been
horn and reared in Butts County and
being directly interested in farming
and taxation on real estate, I am in
tensely interested in the County’s
welfare and lower taxation of its
property. In spite of the fact that
the cost of all supplies and comtnodi
-1 ties, labor and services which our
| county has to buy has been greatly
reduced, Butts County, in economical
government, ranks only in the 109th
place among the 159 counties of this
State. There are 108 counties in
Georgia with a lower tax rate than
Butts. Our reduction in taxes has
not kept pace with the reduction in
j prices and reduced cost of county
j government.
i If elected, during my term of of
fice, I assure you that the Highway
I Refunding Certificates issued to re
pay this county for its work on State
; Aid Roads since 1919, will be applied
! to the retirement of our outstanding
j Bonds and FOR NO OTHER PUR
iPOSE; thereby practically eliminate
i ir.g our present levy of 4 mills for
THE JACKSON PROGRESS-ARGUS, JACKSON, GEORGIA
this purpose. If elected, I shall im
mediately condition the State Aid
Route from Jackson to Covington , as
designated by the State Highway
Board and under outstanding instruc
tions of the State Highway Board,
bo that the maintenance of this road
may be taken over by the State
thereby relieving the County of this
expense,— and further enabling the
County to receive its pro rata share
of the State gasoline tax, thereby
lessening the present burden on ou:
taxpayers by several thousand dollars
per year. I pledge to the Tax PAY
ERS, if elected, an actual saving, in
these two items alone, of at least 25
per cent, in our total county tax, —-
and that the Highway Certificates (in
the total sum of $82,818.10) will b;.
use solely for this purpose and- that
by no subterfuge, will any other levy
be substituted nor will any other levy
be increased to supplant this saving.
If elected, I assure you that I car.
and will co-operate with the various
Federal and State agencies, including
the State Highway Board, in obtain
ing all funds, labor and public im
provements available to our County
without cost to the tax payers, and
further reduce our tax rate accord
ingly.
If elected, I shall publish quarterly
an itemized statement of all purchas
es and warrants issued by the Com
missioners, showing the amount of
each, to whom the money is to be
paid and for purpose, as the law re
quires, as well as an accurate state
ment of all supplies, including auto
mobiles, gasoline and oil, furnished
by the County to any officer, em
ployee of the county or to any othei
person. If elected, I assure you that
during my term of office, 1 shall not
draw two salaries from county funds,
either directly or indirectly, but l
shall follow the letter and spirit of
the law in paying salaries, including*
my own, and in incurring and paying
ail other expenditures from county
funds.
I have no undisclosed, private or
selfish purpose in seeking this office;
and, if elected, I pledge to you an
honest, faithful, economical and effi
cient administration of the duties of.
tho office.
I shall appreciate your vote and in
fluence of your support.
Respectfully,
GEO. E. MALLET.
FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER
I wish to announce, to the voters
of Butts county that 1 am a candi
date for Commissioner of Roads and
Revenues, subject to the white Dem
ocratic primary to be held May 18,
1934. The vote and support of
every citizen will be heartily appre
ciated. If elected to this important
•ffice I pledge you my best efforts for
an economical and 'businesslike ad
ministration of the county’s affair's.
The vote and support of the ladies
will be especially appreciated.
B. T. McMICHAEL.
FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER
To The Voters and Citizens of Butts
County.
Yielding to a desire to again serve
as a member of the Board of Com
missioners of Roads and Revenues
of Butts County, I take this method
of informing you that I am a candi
date for re-election,' subject to the
rules of the Democratic Executive
Committee. Having served in the
capacity for two teims I feel like my
experience is worth something in
making it possible for me to render
better service now than any time in
the past and will be in the future, if
re-elected. My record at> Commis
sioner is my platform.
Trusting that you will again honor
me with your suffrage, thanking you
for so doing in the past, I promise
honest and faithful performance of
the duties of the office in the fu
ture and will appreciate your helpi
and vote.
Very truly yours.
