AND FRIDAY AFTERNOONS.
Mrs. W. H. Wilson, librarian for
the summer of the Hawkes Library,
announces that the library is open
each Tuesday and Friday afternoon
from 3 until 5 o’clock instead of
Monday and Thursday afternoons as
previously published. The editor of
’the social page regrets the error and
makes the correction gladly.

ENTERTAINED.
The Senior B. Y. P. U. of Worth
ville Baptist church met at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Swint Satur
day night, June 23. Many out-door
games were enjoyed throughout the
evening and at a late hour sand
wiches and lemonade was served.
About thirty guests were present.
TOWALIGA W. M. U.
The Towaliga W. M. U. held its
regular meeting at the home of Mrs.
L. P. Weaver June 20. The meet
ing was opened with scripture by
Mrs. L. P. Weaver which was follow
ed by prayer by Mr&. O. L. Weaver.
The program was given from the
Royal Service in charge of Mrs. A.
L. Weaver.
MACEDONIA W. M. S.
The W. M. S. of Macedonio met at
the church on Thursday afternoon
June 14, for the monthly business
and program meeting. Miss Fleetie
Cook, president, presided over the
business meeting and Mrs. John Cook
was chairman of the program com
mittee for June. A very.interesting
program on “Youth” was rendered
by members of circle No. 2.

TO CIRCLE.
Mrs. Jane Mallet was the gracious
hostess to the members of the Young
Business Women's Group of the
Methodist Missionary Society Friday
evening at her home on North Mul
berry Streeet.
After the rendition of a delight
ful program following the short
business meeting, delicious cream
and cake was served.
BIRTHDAY PARTY”
On Saturday, June 16, Barbara
Rebecca Smith, little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs.- Grady Smith, celebra
ted her third birthday at the home
of her parents.
After several games were played
the little folks were invited into the
dining room, where the table was
dedorated with blue and white lark
spur and a large white cake decora
ted with light blue rose buds and 3
lighted candles.
Mrs. Smith was assisted in enter
taining by her mother, Mrs. Wise.
Ice cream and cake was served.

SMITH-VEAL.
A mandage of interest to many
friends was that of Miss Sara Smith
to Mr. Randolph Veal, which took
place Sunday, June 24, at Flovilla
with Rev. Harvey King performing
the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W. A. Smith of Cork.
The groom is the son of Mrs.
Emma Veal and the late Mr. B. W.
Veal of Oconee, Ga.
After a short wedding trip the
young couple will make their home
in Oconee.
They are receiving congratulations
from their many friends. •

Mrs. J. E. Reynolds announces the
marriage of her daughter, Lois
Idell to Mr. David Woods Bailey, May
27 at 3:30 P. M., in Covington, May
Judge Loyd perfomed the ceremony.
Mrs. Bailey is a popular young girl
of Jackson and has a wide circle of
friends throughout the county. She
was a member of the 1932 graduat
ing class at Tennelle, Ga.
Mr. Bailey is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. L. Bailey, prominent citi
zens of Jackson. He attended
school here and in Barnesville.
The young couple are now residing
at the Buchanan Hstel. They are
receiving hearty congratulations
front their many friends.

MISS DANIEL.
Lovely Miss Elaine Daniel of Mor
row has been the much-feted guest
of Miss Roslyn Redman for the past
week and her visit has added much
pleasure to the social life of the
younger set.
On Wedensday evening twenty
boys and girls were Miss Redman’s
guests for a delightful prom party
at her lovely home on Third Street.
A delicious sweet course was served
late in the evening.
Others entertaining at Conner,
movie and swimming parties for Miss
Daniel were Misses Josephine Sas
nett, Mary Lane Mallet, Irma King,
Olga Hammond, Edith and Jane Rice,
Frances and Jane Dempsey.

ADDRESSES CLUBS.
Mrs. T. H. McHatton of Athens,
president of the Garden club of Geor
gia, has sent out the following letter:
“The gentle art of gardening is
epidemic in the land, due largely to
the wreckage of long standing eco
nomic conditions that have turned
men’s thoughts back to the soil and
given time in which to enjoy the
more basic things of life, among
which gardening is to be found.
“There is ever much work to be
done and , fortunately, the garden
clubs of our cities and towns have

at hand at this time quantities of
labor that may be had at government
assistance for Worthy projects of
civic and state importance. All that
is necessary is proper planning and
co-ordination of effort to carry
through many projects that will be
of lasting benefit.

these things and in an effort to best
sense your interests and those of
the state that I, your president
have chosen the committee chair
men, who are to act as leaders of
the different groups for" the year.
Call on these chairmen freely, let
them help you solve your problems,
and remember that they, and my
self also, are at all times ready to
work hand in hand w'ith you towards
the development of a more beautiful
Georgia.

coming over with the CCC camp for

CCC boys.

Monday for Tamson where they
will reside. Mr. Minter as resident
engineer will have supervision of
the paving on the Athens-Augusta
highway.

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Minter regret to know they
left Monday to make their home in
Thomson, Ga., where Mr. Minter has
been transferred to supervise high-
way construction.

up to Atlanta Friday evening for
the Johnson-Swanson fight.
