As the year nears its close and we
look back do we see,
“That These are the Good Things?”
—Elaine V. Emans.
"These are the good things, surely:
work we love
To fill our days, and rest that lol
lows after,
Hooks near at hand, and silver stars
above,
Gay courage, music, literature, song,
and laughter,
Grass underfoot, th pure delight q*
flowers
And birds, each sudden throbbing
glimpse of beauty
Dear vivid memories of certain hour ,
fine, honest words, and stalwart
faith to duty,
The patient, wise, unselfish hearts
of mothers,
Tr.e certain luxury of a loyal friend;
Sometime to dream, the joy of serv
ing others,
Great love that shall endure, though
life must end,
The paths to high achievement still
untold,
And the souls deep knowledge that
there is a God.

Scattergood and a certain man
in Colddriver were discussing hov
this mans daughter had acted. The
man said—“ Honor they father and
mother.”
Scattergood replied “Seems like
the one that wrote that! kind of neg
lected to put in a commandment say
ing parents ought to earn the right
10 be honored by their children. I
never took to one-sided bargains.”
Arc you earning the right to be
honored by your children?
JENKINSBURG P. T. A.
The P. T. A. entertained the dad
dies Friday night. The president,
Mrs. H. G. Harris, welcomed the
guests, and Rev. J. A. Griffies, pus
tor of the Methodist church, gave the
devotional.. After that the ladies
of the Jenkinsburg P. T. A. showed
they believed in the old slogan, “the
nearest way to a man’s heart is
through his stomach,” so they fed
the daddies and listened to them
talk for a while.

MUCICAL COMEDY WAS
DECLARED BIG SUCCESS
STUDENTS PRESENTED IN PLAY
AT AUDITORIUM FRIDAY
NIGHT. FAIR SIZED CROWD
ENJOYED PRODUCTION.
The musical comedy, “Hearts and
Gowns,” presented at the auditorium
Friday night was acclaimed a success
by the appreciative audience pres
ent to greet the young students in
tie cast.
Members of the cast, many ot
them appealing on the stage for the
first time, acquitted themselves in a
splendid way. The play was rarely
enjoyed, many declaring it one of
the best yet presented before a local
audience. The play combined spark
ling humor, snappy music and bright
repartee.
The production was directed by
Mrs. L. M. Spencer, of the expression
department of the Jackson publi.*
schools, and Mrs. J. W. O’Neal, of
the music department, directed the
music. *
So successful was this play that
many are looking forward to other
productions by this group in the
future.
