CHRISTMAS FURNITURE
MADE BY MR. POWELL
VARIOUS ORPHANAGES AND IN
STITUTION REMEMBERED BY
CLEVER GIFTS FROM WORK
SHOP AT INDIAN SPRINGS.
If it is true, as claimed, that it is
more blessed to give than to receive,
then Willis B. Powell gets a tremend
ous kick out of Christmas. This
season, as for the past several years,
he has made and donated to orphan
homes and various institutions beau
tiful gifts of furniture appropriate
to the yule season.
Only recently Mr. Powell donated
a set of furniture to the Masonic
Home in Macon. This institution,
supported by the Masons of Georgia,
is doing splendid work and Christmas
was made bright and cheerful for the
inmates by the thoughtful kindness
of Mr. Powell.
Not all the Powell gifts go to in
stitutions. Many pretty pieces go to
children in and about Indian Springs
and elsewhere in Butts county. Chil
dren have come to lopk forward tc
tire Christmas season with rare an
ticipations for they know Mr. Powell
friends.
These pretty and useful gifts, in
cluding everything in doll furniture,
chairs, tables, book ends, racks and
various pieces, are made by Mr. Pow
ell in his workshop at his home at
Idlewilde. Mr. Powell is a genius
with the saw and hammer and utilizes
odds and ends to fashion beautiful
things that bring unalloyed joy to
the hearts of children.
Out of it all he gets a big kick
and is one of Santa Claus’ best
frienrs.
BOY SCOUTS ENJOY RABBIT
STEW AND CHRISTMAS TREE
The members of the Jackson troop j
of Boy Scouts enjoyed a rabbit stew
and Christmas tree at the home of
Scout Master, P. H. Weaver, Mon
day night. During the evening the
Scouts gathered around a campfire
in the yard and had a royal good
lime cooking the meal and exchang
ing greetings. Gifts from the Christ
mas tree, prettily lighted and decor
ated, were given to members of the
troop.
During the year the Scouts had
many hikes and outings but none
was enjoyed more than this party at
the yule season.
As Scout Master of the local troop
Mr. Weaver has done fine work with
the boys, and the troop is growing
in interest and numbers.
Mrs. Weaver assisted in welcoming
rod entertaining the Scouts on that
enjoyable occasion.
