GEORGIA, BUTTS COUNTY.
By virtue of an order of the Court
of Ordinary granted on the first
Monday in December, 1940, the un
dersigned will sell at public outcry,
on the first Tuesday in January,
1941, within the legal hours of sale,
the following described real prop
erty of the estate of H. M. Fletcher,
deceased.
All that certain tract or parcel
of land situate, lying and being in
the City of Jackson, Butts County,
Georgia, containing three (3) acres,
more or less, and bounded on the
north by lands of H. O. Ball, on the
east by Mays Street, on the south
by Negro Public School property
and William Besley, and on the west
by lands of Joe Carmichael estate.
One third undivided interest in
all that certain tract or parcel of
land situate, lying and being in the
612th District, G. M. of Butts Coun
ty, Georgia containing fifty-four
(54) acres, more or less, and bound
ed on the north, east, south and
west by lands of Mrs. Martha S.
Mays.
The equity in one half undivided
interest in all that certain piece,
parcel or tract of land containing
one hundred eighteen and one half
(11814) acres, more or less, situate
lying and being on the Griffin road
about five miles west from the City
of Jackson, Georgia, in the 610th
District, G. M., County of Butts,
State of Georgia, having such shapes,
metes, courses and distances as will
more fully appear by reference to
a plat thereof made by J. M. Col
lins, County Surveyor, October 15,
1921, and attached to the abstract
on file with The Federal Land Bank
of Columbia, and being bounded on
the north and west by lands of R.
B. Harkness, Julian Compton, J. S.
Land and J. L. Fletcher (the Jack
son-Griffin Road being the line)
east by lands of Charlie Stroud, W.
F. Stroud and C. L. Britton, south
by lands of W. F. Stroud and R.
B. Harkness, said tract of land is
composed of parts of land' lots No.
31, 33, 34, and also, all that certain
piece, parcel or tract of land con
taining one hundred twenty-two
(122) acres, more or less, situate,

Jenkinsburg Public Road about one
mile east from the Town of Jenkins
burg, Georgia, in the 615th District,
G. M. County of Butts, State of
Georgia, having such shapes, metes,
courses, and distances as will more
fully appear by reference to a plat
thereof made by J. M. Collins,
County Surveyor, on the 15th day
of October, 1920, and attached to
the abstract on file with The Federal
Land Bank of Columbia, the same
being bounded north by lands of J.
B. Seine, and estate of G. E. Hor
mon, east by lands of the estate of
G. E. Horrnon and D. D. Estes, south
by right of way of the Southern
Railway Company, west by lands of
J. S. M. Ingram and D. B. Moore;
and both of the last two above de
scribed tracts of land are subject
to a deed to secure debt executed
by H. M. Fletcher and Van Fletcher
to The Federal Land Bank of Co
lumbia, dated November 16, 1921,
and recorded November 16, 1921 in
Deed Book 3, page 299, in the of
fice of the Clerk of the Superior
Court of Butts County, Georgia, se
curing an indebtedness of $6200.00;
and also subject to a second deed
to secure debt executed by H. M.
Fletcher to Maggie Foster dated
February 10, 1927 and recorded
February 22, 1927 in Deed Book 5,

of the Superior Court of Butts
bounty, Georgia, securing an in
lebtedness of $12,103.43.

Meeting Wednesday night for or
ganization purposes, Jackson city
council elected officers to serve the
city for 1941.
T. O. McDonald was elected chief
of police; C. H. Smith, assistant
chief, and G. P. Turner, marshal.
Other employees, all re-elected,
are: Mrs. W. H. Mallet, clerk, tax
;receiver and collector; J. H. Rooks,
| superintendent of water and light
[department; W. E. Maddox, engi
! neer at water station; H. R. Slaton,
member of bond commission, Jack
son National Bank was named de
pository for city funds.
Mr. McDonald succeeds L. J. Mc-
Michael as chief of police and Mr.
Turner was named to the place for
merly held by E. A. Godsey.
Business reports were submitted
at this meeting.
Daniel Coleman
Expired Dec. 26
The body of Mr. Daniel Coleman,
54 years of age, was found in a
wagon at his home in Flovilla De
cember 26, and the coroner’s jury
that investigated returned a verdict
that he died of natural causes. Mr.
Coleman had been engaged in mov
ing a neighbor and when the team
returned home it was found that he
was dead.
An inquest was started Thursday
night and was completed Saturday.
Mr. Coleman was a client of the
Farm Security Administration and
resided in Flovilla. He is survived
by his wife, the former Miss Susan
Goodrum; nine children, Mrs. Helen
Cauley, of Griffin; Marvin, CCC
enrollee at Glice, Oregon; Nellie
Mae, Velia, Daniel Jackson, Marga
ret Joyce, Thomas Jackson, Mary
Elizabeth and an infant; his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Coleman; three
sisters, Mrs. T. W. Higgins, Mrs.
Ezra Thomas and Mrs. Bertram
Singley, all of Jackson; four bro
thers, Horace, of Griffin; Bernice,
Jackson and Stanley Coleman, all of
Butts county.
Funeral services were held at San
dy Creek church Saturday at 11 a.
m. and the Rev. Z. M. Leverette of
ficiated. Burial was in the church
cemetery, with S. H. Thornton, fu
neral director, in charge.
SOLDIERS RETURN TO CAMP
AFTER HOLIDAYS AT HOME
Members of the Jackson Rifles
and headquarters company of the
30th Division, who spent the Christ
mas holidays with relatives here,
returned Wednesday to Fort Jack
son. All of the soldiers look well
and report that Fort Jackson is a
scene of stir and bustle these days.

Mrs. T. 0. Linch
Dies In Atlanta
Butts county relatives and friends
were sorry to know of the death of
Mrs. T. O. Linch, 70 years of age,
which occurred Christmas night at
her home in Atlanta. Funeral ser
vices were held at 1 p. m. Thursday
at Spring Hill, with Dr. Louie D.
Newton officiating. Burial was in
the churchyard of the Flovilla Bap
tist church.
Pallbearers were T. J. Brown Jr.,
William Brown, W. F. Thomas, T.
M. Rhodes, W. E. Smith and J. E.
Linch.
Mrs. Linch, the former Miss Hat
tie Smith, was a daughter of the
late Mrs. Talitha Preston Smith and
Captain William F. Smith, promi
nent residents of Butts county. She
was born and reared at Flovilla and
lived there until a few years ago.
She was the widow of the late Mr.
T. O. Linch, leader in the business
and civic affairs of Flovilla. Fol
lowing his death she removed to At
lanta for permanent residence.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.
B. F. Stovall and Miss Eugenia
Linch of New York; five sons, W. E.
Linch of Pittsfield, Mass. H. L. and
Dr. A. O. Linch of Atlanta; Frank
J. Linch, editor of the McDonough
Advertiser; S. H. Lindfc; her moth
er, Mrs. W. F. Smith, of Manches
ter; six sisters, Misses Jewel and
Willie Smith of Manchester; Mrs. N.
J. Thomas, Mrs. R. B. Thompson and
Miss Laura Smith, of Flovilla; Mrs.
G. V. Cunningham of Athens; two
brothers, S. L. Smith of Grand
Ridge, Fla., and D. H. Smith of
Manchester.
